My Character:
- Spoiler:
- Elise Faye Kinney.
- Eternally 19.
- The child of an angel and a mortal.
- Raised as a human, though she knows her origin and power.
Though her mother wanted children desperately, she was infertile. Being a woman of extremely strong faith, she prayed. For years, no child was given, and then, as she was about to lose hope, she met a man. He said something that most would consider strange. "Do not fear me. I am the answer."
Though her body screamed that it was a lie, she her desperation was overpowering. She had to believe in something. Not more than a night passed and she met him once more, as he repeated the same line. She allowed him to bear her a child. A daughter, though he was gone soon after she was conceived, leaving behind a cryptic message. She will hold a burden that is as great as the radiance she will shine with.. Maybe it was some stroke of luck, having the child. Maybe the child would be a still born. No, he said she would shine.
Just days after Elise was born, she began to get sick. It was nothing the doctors had ever seen, though before they could truly worry, she was healed. A miracle. She had a normal childhood, though the two of them moved around quite a bit. Her mother found work, almost overqualified for all of her jobs, and set a trust fund. They settled and began living a stable life. As Elise got older, she began to question things, such as religion. Her mother grew suspicious of the girl, thinking back to her father. Was this the burden? Was she cursed to deny God? Her mother tried her hardest to convince her, but nothing worked.
When Elise was 17, her mother was diagnosed with cancer, and it was an extremely tough battle. Over the course of the next year, things began to look up, and at one point, the cancer was early gone, but things changed rapidly. No more than a month later and her mother had been ripped out from beneath her, creating a downward spiral, and leaving Elise in a near trace from depression. That had a domino effect, leading to other behaviors, and lasted almost half a year before she was visited by a man, who promised to help. He fed her a curious line. "Do not fear me. I am your answers."
In such a short amount of time, he managed to explain himself and his duty, though Elise hardly believed him. An angel sent down from the heavens above? A load of shit. He insisted he spoke the truth, and that to lie was a sin. She asked him to leave. Once he was gone, her health took a turn and she became ill, though it was nothing more powerful than a flu. One she was healthy, she noticed a change. Nothing extremely different, but she could see it. Her eyes, her skin. She was... Different, in the most strikingly similar way. It seemed from that day, she would not change. She was eternally damned to watch the world age and crumble with a single, long sigh.
