We've all originated from somewhere. Whether it be monkeys or stones, humans have evolved from somewhere overtime.

But not every human has evolved the same way. It's a lot like bears: Some are brown, some white . . . Some are panda bears. They originate the same, but something has caused the panda to be different.

With us, the difference is drastic.

We look like you. Talk like you. Think and learn just like you.

Everything changes when the stars come out. On those nights when stars are hung up high in the sky, something happens to us, a shift in the makeup of our cells.

We become mermaids. Or mermen, whichever your sex is. Rulers of the sea, with long tails and natural coverings over ours chests for the girls, we become something beautiful, fast, and special. Each mermaid/man has a special ocean power, and enchanting beauty only when the stars shine.

We do have something special about us when we are normal, though, so we know which ones of us are truly mermaids/men. All of us have the same shade of boring, brown hair and brown eyes. A tattoo of a shaded water droplet is on our left ankels, and we have some sort of unattractive scar on our face. Keep in mind, we only have this when we look normal. The reason for not being extremly beautiful when we are humans is that we cannot fall in love with humans or something terrible will happen to us.

Love only those with tails like yours. It's the only rule, besides not letting anyone ever see you. If you kiss someone human, you will die in 24 hours. If they kiss you, they die in 24 hours.

So, join us. We swim free in the seas, we play with fish, we cross oceans in minutes, and excluding our human lives, everything is beautiful.

It feels like the day was an eternity. I'm running through my front door, up the stairs, crying, hot tears streaming down my face. I run into my room, slam the door behind me, and throw myself on the bed, burying my face in the pillow to muffle my sobs.
I hate this. I really, really hate this.
I don't even want to think about what happened at school today. The bruises on my face are starting to show the evidence.
I stare at the window, hiccuping slightly, willing the sun to go down and the stars to come out. I live for that.
Spears? Can you hear me? A higher voice in my head squeaked.
It's that dolphin I swam with two nights ago in the sea. I'm surprised it remembers to communicate with me.
Yes, I'm here. Will the stars be out tonight? I respond in my mind.
Yes. I sense more people are going to join us tonight, be on the watch. Meet at the usual place.
I roll over on my bed, too upset to respond. I want to be alone with my sea friends tonight.

But also, this is about science fiction-type things. Maybe move it to science fiction under paranormal, since it's about Evolution?
