So should she mention that or something? Maybe how pressed he is to leave makes her think he's looking too?

Yesss but I don't know if she'd just yell that after him...hmmm lemme think a sec. Would Meredith do this...would Meredith do that...

Meredith: Just then something occurred to me - why was Matteo in such a hurry? He'd seemed like he wanted to get away ASAP when he heard the news about the fountain. Why would he run away from that? I paused, thinking, then slapped my hand to my forehead. Of course. I dropped my hand and pushed through the crowd, following him. "So, I thought of something very important."

Matteo: "Yea?" I ask as we near the exit. Honesty, unless she's gonna tell me the apocolypse is coming, I don't think I want to hear it. But as long as we can walk and talk, I guess it won't matter. "Try me."

Meredith: I felt the pocket of my skirt, yes - I had my ID. Good, then I could walk as far as necessary. I wondered how to word this...Huh? Why was I worrying about wording? I always just said whatever I thought. "Are you searching for the fountain?" I asked point blank.

Matteo: I don't flinch. It's not like it's the first time someone's asked me. Although something tells me this isn't just an inquiry. "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. Why?"

Meredith: "Hm, 'maybe' isn't an answer. I can't afford to answer your question if you don't answer mine. And I asked first," I smirked.

Matteo: I look at her out of the corner of my eye and frown. What's she getting at? She doesn't look much smarter than that broad I picked up today, but she wouldn't have asked if she was that dumb. But she smart ones always want something. "Yes," I say finally, just loud enough for her to hear.

Meredith: I nodded, since I had known I'd be right. "Now, the answer to your question: I just may be able to help you with the search. Though there's a catch, since I'm not as stupid as I look." I knew he had been sizing me up, thinking that I couldn't possibly have brains.

Matteo: I stop for a moment and look down at her, my eyes starting to narrow. "What makes you think I need or want your help?"

Meredith: "Because you want to succeed. And you can't succeed without the crucial...intel, I have." I chose my words carefully.

Sorry, but I think I'm gonna turn in for the night.

Matteo: "And what's the price of this 'crucial intel?'" I ask. "Knowing girls like you, there's always a price."

Meredith: "Girls like me? I'm one of a kind, babe," I rolled my eyes. "Ever heard of 'secret for a secret'?"

Rose: well, it looked like I was in. The money was almost as appealing as the story. And I might pick up a cute guy or two. Bout time you did something with yourself, you worthless hermit, I said to myself as I cut through the gossiping crowd, talking about the Fountain. I found the Armand guy. "Hi."

Matteo: I raise an eyebrow. "Yea. And you can go first."

Armand: Oh hey, it's that coffe shop girl. I smile and greet her back, taking another gulp of vodka. Matteo's off doing something that the heir of the St.Jane fortune would do, and I get to size up the competition. Guess it worked out better for me than I thought. In a way...

Meredith: I shook my head with a smirk. "You really think I'm that stupid? Either you go first, or we exchange them at the same time. That would meaning writing them down, and then destroying them, though."

Matteo: "I got the lighter if you got the paper," I say. As if I'll say this crap first. For all I know, she'll laugh and tell the tabloids right then and there. And Armand couldn't handle that...

Meredith: Damnit, I had thought he wouldn't like that idea. I pulled my mini pink notebook out of my pocket, along with my pink sharpie - the same one that I used to write down Rachel's number for that guy "Ben". Let's see:

That implied that of course I knew where it was, since we had it. So that was more info than he'd probably share. Whatevs.

Matteo: I snort as the sharpie gets passed to me. What the hell is up with her and pink? This isn't Barbie and friends and I'm sure as hell not Ken. I pop off the cap with my teeth and start writing. "I got half a map and a few riddles about the whereabouts of the pieces."
