The Clique

Kayla: "What am I, then?" I ask, curious. I wonder what he'll say. I'm not pretty. I'm rich-- kinda, but he doesn't know that. And my personality. Pfft. That all went away when I told Mandy about my supposed-to-be-practically-sister's-with-best-friend. "Out of... 10."

Clayton: "At least a 9 out of 10," I smiled and leaned against the locker next to hers.

Kayla: "At least, huh?" I say. "Then, at the most...?"

Clayton: "A 10, since that's the max," I shrugged.

Kayla: "So it's higher? I think you got my score mixed-up with yours. You're at least a 15 out of 10."

Clayton: "Oh really?" I raised my eyebrows in amusement and grinned. "Nope, I'm pretty sure I had the scores straight. I have to go, but I'll see you tomorrow, 'kay? For tutoring."

Kayla: "Suure you did." I smile. "But yeah, really."

*coughs*

Oooh, now that seemed like an obvious answer... uh, maybe... Stefani and Mandy--Kayla too...

Stefani: I find Kayla going outside, on her way to the Courtyard at lunch. "Hey! Kayla!" I smile, waving. "Wait up!"

Kayla: I wince at Stefani's light tone. Too bad what she's about to find out. And Mandy's just a couple feet away. I turn around.

Stefani: "Hey, you didn't call last night, I gotta tell you something."

Kayla: "Stef, I can't."

Stefani: "Psh, Mandy can wait. Listen: I like Derek. Okay, so don't tell anybody, alright?"

Kayla: "I can't talk to you anymore," I say flatly, turning around and sitting down at the Clique's table.

Mandy:"Good, a clean break with no tears," I nodded wih a satisfied smile.

Tara: My mouth formed a tight line. Why did Mandy make everyone break off friendships that were outside the Eccentrics?

Stefani: "Wait, what?" I follow her, not sitting down and noticing Mandy's hot glare. "What's the matter?"

Kayla: "You're not part of the clique anymore," I say coldly. "I can't hang out with you anymore. So go."

Stefani: I glare at Mandy. No way anyone else could've done that to Kayla besides her.

Mandy:"If I were you, I'd keep some of my dignity, and just leave without a fight," I smiled coldly.

Tara: I bit my lip anxiously as I watched.

Stefani: "And what, may I ask, would you do if I don't, shorty?" I ask. I'm 5'3, five inches away from being a foot taller than her.

Kayla: I stare down dubiously at my tray.
