Under the Darkness (continuation by Avery and SPH)

Storyline
The city of Nirvana, creatures of all species with special abilities are free to roam around and be normal in the world. Because the world has shunned them, this is their only safe haven. But some also hate this city, feeling like they deserve more rights, more freedom...these people are in a group called The Resistance. And they fight a corrupt world that will do anything to stop them.

Bio: James was one of the few people who were born with special abilities, yet still were human. When James was 17, he was used by mercenaries to win wars. Which cause him serious scars to his body and mind. Once he was used, he would be thrown back into Nirvana where he would live as a recluse. But little did people know that he has connections with Peter Cain, leader of the Resistance. And he is working with Peter to not only take Nirvana down, but the way people perceive people like him as a whole.

Bio: Ira was born in New York, but he had a German mother and a Swiss father. He was taught to speak both languages as a small child and he was also raised under the Jewish faith, though he didn't have any heart behind it. He never practiced his religion unless he was under his parents watchful eyes. When Ira turned 15, he decided to tell his parents something he had been holding in for a long time. When he told them that he was gay, instantly, they were in denial, then, once his words had sunk in, they kicked him onto the street. He began living with his boyfriend, who he broke up with shortly after. His parents refuse to talk to him, and when they talk about him, they refer to him as the 'fag' or the disgrace of the family. Blah, blah, blah, ended up in Nirvana by chance.

Ira had his hand shoved deep into his pockets as he walked down the street. His eyes stayed on the ground and he couldn't help but hear his parents voices echoing in his head. His mind was away as he walked, like he was on auto-pilot. He was just the shell of a person now, all of his emotions unfamiliar to him. That's how he stayed safe.

In the city of Nirvana, it was always crowded. Be it freak or human, the streets and the roads were always full of people. It was like they were all a giant person, migrating and separating into little parts and later into actual human beings. For some people they can't stand being like that, but for James...he knew how to portray himself as he walked down the street. He even enjoyed being out there in the streets, taking pleasure in being a part of something even greater. But while he was heading back home, he bumped into a person--a boy as a matter of fact--(Ira) and something seemed to click for James. His powers started to activate, slowing the flow of time and letting James take a closer look at this boy. The boy looked like he wasn't all there, like he was only half a being. When James was able to take control of his powers, he picked up the pace of time and continued on. Only he went after the boy, stopping the boy for a second. Not knowing what to say, James only mumbled a hello. But he continued to stare at the boy.

Ira was a bit jolted as someone touched him and he could barely pick up the greeting that came afterwards. He stared at the boy for a long time, pursing his lips. "Hello," he said, very softly. The words came out more hollow than he intended, and he nearly cringed back from how cold the words sounded... But he couldn't find the will. His hands tightened in his pockets and he just looked up, unsure of what was supposed to happen in the streets. He had never had someone do this before.

James took a second to look over the boy and his appearance. The boy didn't seem like he was different than anyone else. Just a regular person, or being, at that time James could never know whether or not this boy was a freak like him or a human. He thought about asking, but he gained control of his words and--with a shaky voice--asked: "What's your name, by chance?"

"Ira," he said, bowing his head slightly, but there was only cold formality behind his words. He didn't know even the basics of interaction as he had went so long without it. Honestly, he hadn't even spoken in days. This was like putting his brain into restart mode. Soon, he realized what was going on and quickly scanned over the boy, taking in his features and the wore a polite smile. "What's your name? Ira could at least be polite. At least the boy was easy on the eyes. From what he remembered, sometimes, people could be quite ugly.

James took a long, drawn out breath before replying with a simple: "James." Then--and only then--did James realized that he prowled down a stranger who was just a poor boy and was acting strange around him. He had to think fast. "I don't think I have ever seen you around here before, are you...new around town?"

Well, you could call it new... I prefer anti-social. "Yeah," Ira said softly, sort of thinking back to the safety of his home, away from people who might ask him things or try to invoke some sort of feeling. That was never good. That was too dangerous. "Is it obvious?" He asked, raising an eyebrow slightly, while his blue eyes held the same void stare toward James. James... That's a good name.

"Well it's just," James wanted to say what he truly felt, but didn't want to make Ira give another quirk of his eyebrow, though he did look cute doing it. Ira's eyes were fascinating James, making him feel like Ira was someone he would see from a magazine; in a ad at least. Ira's eyes were so deep; such a deep blue. "I just never seen you before. I guess you can say I know almost everyone around town, it's just a bonus from my job I guess."

Hmm... Well, that answer would be disappointing to most, really.

"Ah," Ira said with a slight nod of his head. His eyes feel to the ground again and then slowly, taking at least a minute, made their way back up to James. "So, knowing people is a perk of your job?" Ira paused for a moment. "Well... I don't know what liberties you have to answer, but what do you do?" Something made him wonder why James had even stopped him in the first place. Maybe Ira was paranoid a bit, but maybe it was something that James had been sent to do.

James was completely dumbfounded, what on Earth was he doing?! All he did was lose control of his powers when he bumped into Ira, got a "feeling" and decided to stalk the boy and has a conversation with him? "Well," he was afraid to say it. What if this boy was someone who was looking for Resistance leaders and trying to hunt them? Maybe that's why James lost control of his powers, because of some weird technology the government has made up to jam up his powers. James couldn't trust Ira completely, not just yet. "I guess I'll have to answer that question with another question: Do you really want to know what I do?"

Ira felt something in the corner of his lips, almost like the urge to smirk, but instead, he kept his lips in a straight line. "I'd like to know," Ira nodded up at James. He bit his lip gently, eyes still trained on the older boy. He was... Not completely uninteresting in what he had to say. It was an unusual feeling, to be speaking like a normal person again. Well, as normal as someone who came across as a mute robot could be.

James still seemed uneasy, he had to know if Ira was like him. Well, not exactly like him, but a freak like him. Someone that would support the Resistance and not fight against it. Though many people would think James wasn't all that important, he was in the underground world. He was cohorts with Peter Caine. Peter Caine. The leader of the Resistance! Of course James would have lots of good information that many people would want to get their hands on it. James had to think fast. "First, let's um...how about we go somewhere first? You know, get out of the streets and not get in people's way...unless you are going somewhere?"

Ira simply shrugged. He had been on his way home, but as soon as James put conditions on telling Ira his occupation, he decided that he had to know. "No, I'm in no rush to anywhere," he said softly, pulling his hands from his pockets and crossing them across his chest. "Where do you have in mind?" It wasn't like James' answer would matter. Ira wouldn't know what he was talking about anyway. It was part of being in his house all day.

James thought rather quickly to think of a usual place to talk in quiet. Or at least where people would ignore them. "How about the coffee shop down the street? It's really not too far off." James then wondered if this was really okay to do. But as long as Ira seemed okay wig it all, then it shouldn't matter if it seemed weird right?

Ira nodded and look forward along the street ahead of them. "Yeah, that sounds fine," he said, then looked back at James, but something was different about his eyes. Something off. The ghost of light behind the blue, but it couldn't break through the emptiness. He seemed to forget all about going home at that moment, though, looking at James. It was just a little itch in the back of his mind now.

"Good then," James then ushered Ira and himself to the small coffee shop he has talked about earlier. As they arrived they sat down by a cafe table and James let out a deep breath. As he was about ready to pour out his occupation, if Ira was who he thought he was. "Well, Ira...can I ask you a question first?"

Ira nodded slowly at James. "Go ahead," he said softly, but part of his mind was wary. He wasn't sure how much he could answer without feeling something. He really, really didn't want that. After all, it had taken years to perfect keeping himself hollow. He could still remember the emotions, but he couldn't remember feeling them.

James looked down at the table's surface, wondering how he should say this. He didn't want Ira to be offended when he asked if Ira was a freak like him. But he didn't know how to ask any other way. That was what he was, a freak of society. A being that had to be kept down here in the city of Nirvana so that he can be maintained and watched over. Either way, he had to be blunt with the kid, despite the fact that James didn't want to. "Are you...not human?"
