What Is Left After?

Joseph: I hold out my hands so she can lean on me. "S'okay to sleep," I say.

Roxanne: I half-smiled in agreement before I leaned on him. "I'm just overreacting, huh?" I asked softly, not expecting an answer.

Joseph: "Not really. I'd be a little freaked, too."

Roxanne: I sighed softly, glad that he didn't think I was paranoid or nuts. But...why was I glad though? Why did I care about what he thought of me? "I'm kind of relieved now I don't remember the rest of it." I muttered before I closed my eyes, not actually asleep.

Joseph: "Well, if it was a dream like that..." I trailed off when her eyes closed.

Wayne: I raised an eyebrow. "Oh. Did you not get along with your parents?"

"Sorry!" I gasp, almost cringing in embarrassment. "Sorry, sorry..."
It's not a faked apology, that much is for certain. I feel like I've kicked a puppy.

Jelsa: I flushed slightly and looked away from him. "It's just...things are moving really fast, you know?" I whispered.

Roxanne: I raised my eyebrows for a second, "Like that...?" I encouraged, my way of telling him I was still listening.

Aimery: I wave him away playfully. "Oh, who does? It's just that they were never really...there for me."

Joseph: "A dream that meant something, instead of pretty swirling colors," I finish.

Wayne: I nodded. "Yeah, I can understand that too. Sorry about everything, I guess." I wasn't really good at comforting people.

Roxanne: I laughed, a little bit dryly though. "Pretty swirling colors?" I questioned, opening my eyes to look at him. "If only, then this kind of stuff wouldn't happen."

I hang my head. "The world moved too fast, and now we're running to catch up. I understand if what I did was too far."
I readjust my position so that I'm still close to her, but the closeness suggests protectiveness rather than romantic indecision. I squeeze her shoulder in a friendly fashion.
"Again, sorry."

Jelsa: I nodded. "It's okay." I looked up him again. Wow, I was short. "Um...well, we're not doing much else right now, so I wouldn't actually mind a little more, uh, mouth action."

Aimery: "I don't need your sympathy," I mutter, then smile. "What I do need is a good shower."

Joseph: "Well, there's always a reason," I say comfortingly.

Wayne: "Oh," I said. "Well, then, uh, have a good one..."

Roxanne: "Yeah, you're right." I agreed, and then I seemed to realize how close I was to him. Except I only cared for about a second or two.

Aimery: I laugh at him. "Like I could find a working shower."

Joseph: "I'm not right all the time. Once, when I was little, I told my brother that grapes grow on bushes." I smile at the memory.

Wayne: "Don't we have one in the hotel rooms? Or I guess you could go find a lot of water or something."

I look down at this petite girl, and marvel at my own height. I temporarily lose the gentlemanly air.
"Well, if that's what you want," I growl, grinning. It's not an angry growl, but it's still definitely more animalistic than my usual voice. I slip my hand behind her head again, and bring my lips to hers, with slightly more force than last time.

Roxanne: I smiled a bit, "That's cute." I couldn't help but say, but I didn't ask about his family. I didn't want to touch a nerve or anything.

Jelsa: He scared me a little bit at first, but then I lost myself as our lips pressed together. I smiled and tentatively ran my tongue on his bottom lip.

Aimery: I smirk. "I'm too lazy to find a bunch of water."

Joseph: "Of course, I was never one to tell the truth, so he went to my parents and asked them," I continued.

Wayne: "I'll help you if you want."

Roxanne: I paid more attention now, "And what did they tell him?"

I'm careful this time not to go too far, so I stroke her hair gently with my right hand, and keep my left hand at the base of her spine. I hold her close, surprised at how her delicacy evokes some odd reactions. At the same time as the romantic feelings, I am overcome with a desire to protect.
