Elements of Fate

Aeon glanced at Mirissa. "Hey, come on. Don't laugh. She's like a parasite. They're hard to get rid of."
"You're comparing me to a parasite?" Calypso shrieked, trying to hide a smile.

Mirissa couldn't help the giggle that escaped her mouth, "Are you two dating?"

Calypso pretended to gag. "No, I just use him for food."
"Really? I thought I earned a friendship out of this. Dammit."
"Oh, and movies. He's always got great movies."
"Because I actually go to the theatre, watch them, and then decide to buy them. You just come here."
"Yup. And it takes less than three months."
Aeon shook his head, then frowned. "Hey. What's wrong with dating me?"
"Haha, you? I'm sorry, I see you as a friend."
"Oh, you know what I meant."
"Hmm....I don't know. I just don't."

Mirissa laughed and shook her head.

She stood and walked over to a radio she saw on the counter. Flipping it on she began turning channels till she found the news.
"In darker news there was a prisoner in the (random jail) in (random state.) That disappeared today." Mirissa froze on her way back to the table.
"Mr. Loren Stanley, convicted for too many crimes to count. The last and one of the worst holding a young child no more than eight years old for around four years. She was reported ,missing an hour ago, spose to be walking home from the pool but never arrived. Her name is Miris-," she turned off the radio, her cheeks void of color.

(I don't get it....but I'll probably get it later.)

Aeon glanced up. "Hey, wassup?"

Mirissa didn't reply, she was trying to hard to keep from fainting. Epic fail. She collasped to the ground in a heap.

Nick jumped up and ran over to Mirissa, "Mirissa!"

Tristin was watching with interest.

Mirissa was still out, those eyes watching her in her dreams. Would she ever be free?

Nick listened, she was still breathing, she just fainted. He held her tightly

Curiously Tristin went and turned the radio back on.
"So, if you see either of these people, Mirissa Johnson or Loren Stanley you should contact the police immediately."

Christy's eyes went over to Mirissa. "Um...is that her?" She said. Why would people be looking for mirissa? Nick's eyes flashed to the radio then to Tristin, and back to Mirissa. She was still knocked out.

Mirissa's eyes flickered open, someone was holding her. She jumped back, her eyes going wide with fear.

Tristin snickered and walked back to his seat.

Nick jumped slightly at the sudden movement, "Mirissa are you okay?"

Mirissa flinched back, then realized it was Nick. "I-I'm fine."

Nick looked at her worried, "Mirissa, Whats wrong?" He asked, knowing she wasnt fine, something was wrong.

"N-nothing." Her eyes darted to the radio that was still on. She flinched again. Why did he have to get out? Why couldn't it be anyone else in that dumb prison?

Nick looked at the radio, he was sure that her name was mentioned. But why? "Mirissa..." something had happened. He was sure of it.

She glanced up at him and winced, she knew what was coming, "Yes?"

Nick took her hand gently and made his voice a whisper, "What were they talking about on the radio?"

Mirissa sniffed, "Do you remember a big deal quite a few years ago, child slave ring was broken, some of the children were found alive and unhurt, others worse off..."

Nick thought for a moment and then remembered. "I remember..." He said

Mirissa hesitated, her hands unconsciously rubbing her arms covered by long sleeves. "My name has been Mirissa since I was twelve, thats me now. When I was younger my name was Jessica."

Nick looked at her, "How come you changed your name?"

She stared down at her arms, as if she could see the scars through the clothing. "I was put in the witness protection program."

Nick's eyes widened "Were you one of the kids in the Child Slave Ring thing?
