The Pendant

Luke: "Alright." I stood up and walked out with her.

Courtney: I closed my eyes and groaned a bit. "I'm not really hungry. But I guess first impressions are key?" Reluctantly I got up and fixed my hair, waiting for him to lead the way.

Jake - I led her down to the large formal dining room and saw my mother fussing with a servant. "Hello mother," I say giving her a kiss on the cheek.

Serene - I walk into the dining room and take my seat to the right of daddy, "Hi daddy," I smile at him.

Mr. Land - "Hello Serene, are they all settled in?" I ask her and watch as she nods.

Luke: I smiled and saw they expected me to shake hands, so I did. "Hello."

Courtney: I wasn't sure whether or not I should just sit or be all polite like the Luke-guy, so I stood there, fiddling with a shadow, looking at Jake to help me out. I didn't like being 'formal' or 'polite.' It went against my ethics.

Jake - I pulled a chair out for Courtney, "What's for dinner?" I wonder sitting in my own chair.

Mrs. Land - "Jake," I warn my son, he knew I hated that question. I sit in my seat and smile at my daughter.

Serene - "Luke is a very good mind reader mother," I brag about him. I know that it'll give him a slight advantage to be considered a good asset to the family.

Luke: I smiled. "I'm also not one to boast..." BUt yeah, I'm pretty good...

Courtney: I sat down and glared at Luke and Serene. What were they playing at? "Is there a limit to your distance from the person?"

Luke: "Well yes, but-"

Courtney: "Hm. Shame..." I smirked.

Serene - I glare back at Courtney, she was going to be someone to watch out for.

Mr. Land - I didn't care for his connection with my daughter but if he ended up being the chosen one the connection would be beneficial, "How long of a distance before you can't hear them?"

Jake - I smile at Courtney.

Courtney: I smiled back.

Luke: "Er..." I was hoping this wouldn't come up. "At most thirty feet..." So lame.

Mr. Land - I frowned slightly. "I see, still mind reading is useful."

Serene - "Anyway, Jake?" I look at him. "Have you told Courtney about the secret behind her room?" I smirk at him as he glared at me.

Jake - I cursed mentally. I was hopping that wouldn't come up. "Not yet Serene," I say angrily.

Luke: "Definitely!" I said eagerly, hoping to erase that distance fact from her mind.

Courtney: "Now's a good time..." I said, slightly pissed but still curious. A secret, huh? Dead bodies?

O: "October. October Tyler?" I looked around the big entry hall of the mansion. If this was the entry hall, what could the rest of the house possibly look like? "Where's my room?"

Jake - I groaned and waved Serene on, "You tell her, you're good at telling STORIES!"

Serene - "Well, the legend goes, that when our ancestors first moved to this estate a young girl who was here to see if she was the chosen moved into that room. She was the chosen, and like tradition goes she married the son. They lived here for ten years, had their kids, and life was perfect. Until she went mad with power. She killed herself in that very room. Now every female that stays in that room has a nervous break down, and kills themselves," I smirk, "I'm sure we'll be finding you dead in there soon enough."

Courtney: I laughed. "You ARE good at telling stories. Well. If I do go crazy, at least I'll have someone to confide in," I smirked at Jake, not believing it.

Luke: Jake and Serene's thoughts conflicted with each other, and I could tell if it was a story or not.

Jake - I smiled, "See Serena, you're not able to scare this girl off," I tell her.

Serena - "Your last girlfriend didn't run either, and we found her dead in there, bathing in a pool of her own blood, withing one week of the story." I retort.

O: God, i knew i was quiet... No one answered me and no one's attention was putting me in the spot light...the way i liked it. I kicked off my flats and went up the grand staircase, looking for an empty room i could take.

Courtney: I glared at her. "I'm not sure what you're playing at, but it's not working, honey. I dont get scared. I get others scared. Or seduced." I smirked.

Serene - "Just ask Jake, it's true, poor little Adriana didn't have a chance," I stare at Jake.

Jake - "Adriana was weak and heavily influenced by you," I snap.

Luke: "There's someone else here..." I muttered, a new and stranger train of thought entering mine.

Courtney: I grinned at their bickering. "So Serene. You obviously want to marry Luke. Kind of odd, seeing as you've known him for a couple minutes." I didn't really like marriage. I believed in 'friends with benefits' more.

Serene - I laughed, "I'd rather marry him then be disowned," I told her. "Yes, there is another girl, she's in the competition, she's one to watch out for. Jake, you just might end up being with her."

Jake - "Courtney's powerful," I say. "Yes, but it's not all about power, the pendant chooses the wise as well," Serene points out and I know she's right.

Courtney: My eyebrows shot up and I looked at Jake. "Disowned? What type of a family is this??"

Jake - "The kind that if she turns mortal because I marry the chosen one she will be disowned, and I will be disowned if I turned mortal," I tell her.

Serene - "Exactly," I say with a frown, "and I kind of like having a family."

Courtney: SHoot.. "NO offense to the family, of course... I'm talking about the concept of all this. DOesn't disowning a child seem a bit... extreme?" I looked at the parents nervously. I was really the only girl with a fighting chance in my opinion, so if I didn't get chosen where would Jake go?

O: She found an empty room and dropped her duffel bag on the bed and her shoes on the floor before heading down. She had heard voices before and now followed them to the spacious dining room. She looked around and lowered her hood. "Where may i sit?"

Mr. Land: "It is, but it is tradition that is unbreakable, if the mortal child stays then he/she will end up dead."

Serene: "Anywhere you'd like dear," I tell the girl, October was her name.
