The Pendant

Courtney: My eyebrows went higher, and I looked down, hair shielding my face. "Damn..." I looked up to see a new girl. Gah. "Hello," i said cheerily.

((What're they eating?))

O: I nod curtly and take a seat. I looked around the dinner table full of stuff and it's more than i can ask for. I really didnt know why i came here in the first place. It definitely wasn't for that pendent; i didn't much care for more powers. As if people didnt call me freak enough. I took a slice of bread from the basket in front of me and leaned back in the comfortable chair.

Serene - "You're a good choice," I say slightly sad. I wouldn't be mad if she was chosen, then again I didn't really want to loose my family.

Jake - I could sense her wisdom, everything about her was perfect for the chosen, except I still wanted Courtney to be chosen.

Luke: Dang she was.... I shrugged it off.

Courtney: I leaned over to Jake and whispered: "Is it rude for me to leave early?"

Jake - "no, you can go on," I tell her.

Serene - I patted Luke's shoulder friendly. I wanted more than anything for him to be the one, but sometimes what I wanted didn't happen.

Courtney: I smiled in relief. "Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Reese. The food looked great," I said, gesturing to my untouched, empty plate. "I think I'll go up to my room now." Not necessarily to sleep... but more to disappear slash contemplate how to 'make myself worthy' or whatever.

O: Bread gone, i went for another slice. Of course they were talking about the pendent....why wouldnt they? Was i seriously the only one here who didn't care? They were all so obnoxious about it. If i was that pendent i wouldnt choose a single one of them. They'd all be too annoying to hang around with for the rest of my jewelry life.

Luke: I looked at the October girl, her thoughts worrying me a bit. For some reason she seemed like a perfect pick.

Serene - "October? Can you blame me for thinking about the pendant, if it doesn't choose Luke then I won't have a family anymore." I know that look on her face, she thinks I'm arrogant and obnoxious. I feel my heart weaken as I let down the walls that protect it, "I want a family, I want to be loved," I say holding back tears.

Luke: Shoot. That was a bit unexpected...

Courtney: I heard what that Serene chick said and I smirked. Sad... but something to use to my advantage. But it was low... I spotted a bathroom and went to take a shower.

O: I caught a boy looking. I wasn't drawing attention to my self in any spectacular way which meant something else drew him to me, and the only thing that seemed to interest these people was that silly pendent, which meant he was a Reader. [i]Yes?[/i]

And now another girl was paying attention to me. My face turned blank. Now, what power could she possibly have? I didn't think powers repeated themselves, at least with the few people that i've met. I finished the bread and turned to the plate of cheese and crackers. "That's fine. You want a family, go ahead. Just a warning, from my experience...they don't much like supernatural powers."

Mr. Land - "SERENE!" I yell, "Watch yourself!"

Serene - I nod sternly and put back up my walls. I was invincible. I was unbreakable. I was dangerous. I was independent. I would do what I had to do to win. I recited what my father had taught me in my head. "My family does, if Luke isn't picked I lose my powers and then they disown me, simple as that." I say with no expression. I am a stone. I am hard.

Luke: I looked at her in shock. Well. "Erm..." I my eyes shifted to the rest of the people then back to October. "I think I'll go too..."

Courtney: I finished my shower and wrapped a towel around me, running a hand through my hair to de-knottify it.

((Not sure if de-knottify is a word... probably not... but whatevs XP))

O: "My 'rents were plenty freaked by my powers. They would love for me to lose them, and not have a demon child." Damn God-Freak of a step father... I scowled at the memories he conjured up.

Serene - Wait! I thought then let the thought go. I had to block myself from heartache... whether it made me sound harsh or not. "I'm sorry for that," I say truthfully

Luke: My steps faltered at Serene's thought, even after she let it go. "Actually... I think I'll stay a bit more. I here the shower running, so I can wait."

Serene- I glance up at him then back to the table.

Mrs. Land - I notice Serene's distraction in her hardness... maybe Luke was good for her. I always thought her father made her too hard... too much like him.

Luke: I sat there a bit awkwardly. I mean, if she wanted me to stay then so be it, but I didn't have much to say. I smiled at Mrs. Land when I heard her thoughts.

Courtney: And now I was bored. I got dressed in a pair of boxer-like shorts and a white tank top, getting ready for bed in the event I just fell asleep without even trying.

Serene - "Luke, why don't I show you around the estate?" I smiled at him.

Luke: Phew. "Alright," I said, mirroring her smile.

O: I studied her a moment. "It's alright." I stood and walked out without another word. I went for the stairs and to my room to flop down on the bed. I took my duffel bag and set it on the floor.

Courtney: I heard someone walk up, so I crept out of my room a bit to see who. OH. I had no business for her.

Serene - "I'm sorry for what you heard," I say once out of my dad's hearing range.

Luke: "Oh I don't mind. Your mother's thoughts made me confident, though." I smiled. We passed Courtney walking back to her room, and we exchanged glares.

Courtney: W.o.w. Hookup prediction already made. A couple, actually.

Jake - I walked up to Courtney's room. "HEY."

Serene - "What thoughts?" I wondered.
