Unfinished Page

Emily gave a small laugh, "Well, that's debatable, dear." She responded, casually looking over the furniture, Really, she wasn't entirely sure what she was after so she asked, "What do you think we, um, need for the little one?"

Nate thought for a moment. "We'll need a crib, dresser, changing table, things like that." he said and looked over at her with a smile.

Emily smiled back, as they were now heading into that section of the store. She had to admit it was nice to have him there with her. Eventually, they were done looking around, only just window-shopping for today. These things they wouldn't need right away. She walked with him, heading out of the store.

Nate walked with her to the car and walked her over to the passenger side and opened the door for her. "Could I have the keys?" he asked with a smile and held out his hand, palm up, once she was seated.

"That would kind of be a good idea, wouldn't it?" Emily questioned half-humorously with a smile of her own before digging in her pocket and handing him her set of keys.

Nate smiled and walked to the drivers side. He turned and winked at her before starting the car and driving toward the center of town. He pulled into a cafe and turned the car off and turned to face Emily. "Do you remember this cafe? It was where we had our first date."

Emily smirked slightly at the memory. "Yeah, of course, I remember. How could I not?" She retorted, meeting his gaze.

Nate smiled and couldn't help himself because he was acting in the moment. He reached for her hand and brought it to kiss mouth, gently and sweetly brushing his lips over her slender and delicate fingers as he gazed into her eyes.

Emily was a little surprised by the gesture and didn't know what to say. Honestly, not sure what to think either but the thoughts she was having weren't bad. Her smile widened, becoming softer as well.

Nate smiled and released her hand before hopping out and walking around to open her door and hold out his arm to help her down.

Emily smiled at the seemingly chivalrous offer, linking her arm with his as she got out of the car and they entered the cafe.

Nate smiled at her across the table once they were seated and ordered himself a water for now.

Emily ordered the same, half-wondering in the back of her mind if he had anything important to say.

There was something Nate wanted to say, but he felt like the moment was too good to be ruined by something trivial.

Emily noticed a certain expression cross his features and she questioned curiously, "What are you thinking about?"

Nate sighed, he wanted to let it go, but he didn't want to lie to her, so he decided to talk. "I...I was thinking about our past. When we were little." he confessed and leaned forward against the table with his elbows propped on the edge of the table. He was now lost in a reverie. "How you would giggle when we would run after you. How your face crinkled together when you genuinely laughed. I remember the sun bouncing off of your hair, making it shine and I knew then that I was in love with you and I was only 10..." he finished and let the sentence hang in the air between him, as he was still lost in the past.

Emily really wasn't sure how to react by how in depth he went. A half-smile formed on her lips and her hand went across the table to reach for his. She held it as she spoke softly, "I remember how those days were..." She mutually reminisced. "I was...falling in love with you too then..." She trailed off, but her gaze met his. She knew in that moment...anything bad that had happened between them didn't matter anymore. What did matter is that in a way, he came back to her.

Nate broke from his reverie when her delicate hand touched his. He met her gaze and gave her a happy smile, moving his hand to cover and close around hers. Everything bad that had happened was now in the past and they were moving forward.

Emily's smile widened. She just missed his simple touch, his large hand enclosed gently around her smaller one. Her gaze only fleeted when their waiter returned with their drinks and left to give them more time to think about their order. She was starting to have other thoughts about how they could spend their evening and questioned in a tone that would probably give him a hint, "You think we could get our order to go? Eat at home instead?"

Nate still hadn't let her hand go, nor did he want to, fearing that if he did, he would lose her. He gave her an understanding smile. "That sounds like a good plan."

Emily nodded slightly, the smile still on her lips and when the waiter returned yet again, she ordered their meal for carry out and soon enough, they were both headed out the door and towards the car. That whole time, Emily didn't remove her hand from his. She felt if they lost contact, what they had rekindled would vanish.

Once they reached the car Nate looked down at their hands and smiled up at her. "In order to get in, we must let go." he said, though he didn't want to elt go of her. He helped her in and then got in himself and immediately took her left hand in his right one as he drove them home.

Emily rolled her eyes slightly at his statement but with a small smile. It was a more comfortable ride home than it was into town that day, and she was relieved by that. Once they got home, he got out and came around the car to help her out like he practically always did. As they headed up to the door, she got her keys back and unlocked the front door before heading in with him.

Nate sat their food on the counter before going behind Emily and closing the door. He joined her back in the kitchen as she was pulling out plate and cups.

Emily glanced back at him shortly while she was getting everything they needed out, and occasionally having to maneuver past him. Though it definitely wasn't an awkward feeling. Things were going...back to normal for them. She had to comment once they were seated and everything was set, "You know, I'm glad you said what you did tonight."
