Camp Love Lake (Rated Mature b/c, hey, it's camp LOVE lake)

Kayden let a breath of boredom out. Act after act, talentless loser after loser. He had to admit, Claire did have an excellent singing voice.
The counselors stepped up as it was all over.
"Any last minute acts?" they asked with a smile.
Kayden slowly grinned and raised his hand. They waved him up, handing him a guitar they gave to anyone who needed one. Hell, Kayden had no idea how to play one, so he waved it away as he stepped to the mic.
"I'd like to dedicate this to someone very special," he grinned, pausing.
He didn't say the name. Instead, he began to slowly sing "Hey There Delihlah"

Claire: I crossed my arms and watched Kayden's performance grudgingly. Probably dedicated to Elliot. Did he have to rub his new girlfriend in my face anymore?! I frowned as he finished, not bothering to clap, and stood up with the intent of going back to my cabin now with Kylie and Sam.

Kayden saw her walking away, and he loudly repeated the verse he wanted her to hear:

Hey there Deliaha, don't you worry about the distance, I'm right there if you get lonely, give this song another listen.

His eyes locked with hers, in less of a fierce way, but more of an apologetic way.

Claire: I bit my lip, turning my head away and shaking it slightly, tears coming to my eyes for some reason I didn't even know. Just little ones, though, not full out sobbing. I continued walking with Sam and Kylie. I'd want to be friends with Kayden, maybe, but it'd be...it'd be so hard.

Kayden hopped down off the stage when he saw her tears. Some claps, but they all knew Kayden wasn't a singer. He butchered the song.
Running to the girls, he breathlessly taped Clarie's shoulder.
"Claire? Can we talk? Please?" he said, panting.

Claire: "Uhm," I smiled faintly and reluctantly, sadness in my eyes still. "I guess so."

"You guys can head back to the cabin," I told Sam and Kylie and they ran off. I turned back to Kayden. It was weird looking him in the eyes when those eyes didn't belong to me anymore.

Kayden swallowed a lump in his throat.
"Claire, I'm really, really sorry for pissing you off. That was really, really rude of me. And, I can't take back what I did, but can you forgive me?" he pleaded.
It was strange looking at her, seeing the coldness on her face. He missed her smile, just a bit. What he really missed was them being friends, at least, when everything was easy. And maybe he missed being together with her, just a bit, but Elliot was his everything, and he loved her.

Elliot walked silently behind all the commotion of the talent show, heading straight for her cabn. Her eyes felt swollen and her joints felt like they were going to give out. Classic Elliot. She had run the feild ten times after he had left, trying to feel better.

Claire: My mouth twisted into something like a frown, and I bit my lip, my brows knitting together. "I don't know," I said honestly. "It's kind of a hard thing to forgive."

Kayden looked down.
"I know Claire, I'm sorry. I really was an ass. I don't expect you to forgive me, but . . . Can we be buddies, Claire-Bear?" he said, choking up at the mention of her nick-name.

Claire: I blinked and gulped when he used my nickname. "I...I guess so." I sighed. It was better to have part of Kayden than nothing at all.

Kayden's eyebrows arched down.
"I'm not making you do anything, Claire. It's up to you."
He was amazed at how understanding he had suddenly become. Maybe going through all of this had changed him, for the better.
"In fact, you can ask me never to speak to you again."
Then he added, "We can just be friends, though, Claire. Nothing more than that."

Claire: "What makes you think I'd WANT to be more than that?" I said dryly. "Sorry, that sounded mean, but..." He made it sound like I was desperate to be with him. "Just friends. Okay."

Kayden stepped back a bit at her snappy remark.
"Sorry, sorry. Just making sure," he muttered.
He met her eyes shyly.
"So, we'll keep in touch, and call still?"

Claire: "Yeah, well, actually..." I blushed. "We're kind of going to the same college. But I think I'll switch."

Kayden's mouth dropped.
"That's great Claire!"
He realized she wasn't so enthusiastic, and quickly rearranged his expression.
"I can see why you'd like to switch, know El and I are-"
He stopped, needing to explain no more.
Sheepishly, he held his hand out.
"Friends?"

Claire: "Friend shake hands?" I sighed skeptically, but shook his hand anyways.

Kayden laughed, dropping her hand. He remembered what it was like to really hold her hand, look in those sweet eyes and burn with love. But, he knew he loved Elliot, that she was the one for him. He shifted his weight into his other foot.
"Last day huh?"

Claire: "Yeah. But it's probably not a big deal for you, since you'll see Elliot at college, anyway." I bit my lip, trying to keep any bitterness out of my voice.

Kayden winced a bit.
"Claire . . . do you still feel that way about me?"

Claire: "Uhm, well, kinda. But I'll get over it," I said quickly.

Kayden looked at her.
"I'm not all over it either, Claire. I know I have . . . Leftover feelings," he crossed his arms over his chest.

Claire: He did? It was a relief to know it wasn't just me, even though he didn't plan to ACT on those feelings. I nodded, looking down at my shoes. "You'll get over them, over me."

"I hope so, Claire."
He wanted to say more, but his throat closed again and he couldn't. He felt like a girl, having so much emotions.
"I-I.... I'm sorry."

Claire: That hurt a little: he hoped he'd get over me. But it didn't show on my face that I was hurt, I hoped it didn't, anyway. I shrugged. "Nothing to be sorry for. Elliot wouldn't like it if she knew you had feelings for an ex."
