I grimace as I write this time, spelling out each word almost angrily 'Karli's School for the Mentally Retarded. They didn't even know I was mute'

Derek: I was flirting with a retard? Turn off. I just nodded, and turned back to face forward.

Jack: I tapped the Onyx girl on the shoulder. "Hey, you're new, right? Have you found your classes alright?" I felt bad for her, especially because of how Derek seemed to be treating her...and she was pretty. Teenage boy-syndrome kicking in there.

I nod with a smile, tucking a lock of hair behind my ear. Dang, maybe I should start going to sign language classes... as it was, I still knew how to sign a couple of things, and I really didn't feel like using my notebook again. I signed a thank you

Jack: I understood what that meant, since we'd been forced to learn basic sign language in the second grade. "No problem...can I see your schedule?"

I nod again, handing him the crumpled paper

Jack: "Lucky you, most of your classes are in one wing - Wing B. That's this hallway and the next couple. I'll show you where your next class is when this one en-" Just then the bell rang, and I grinned at her. "Well, right now, I guess."

Derek: I gave Jack a 'What the hell are you thinking?!' Look before leaving class. Talking to retards wasn't good for his rep.

Jack: I just shrugged at Derek and waited at the door for Onyx.

I give him a tiny smile and follow. I signed thanks again before glancing at Derek, letting out another sigh.

Derek: I looked away when the retard looked at me, and led my herd of friends away.

Jack: "Mmkay, down the hall..." I led her.

I keep following, the last scene playing in my mind as I recalled body language. Photographic memory, when you can't talk, you learn to pay attention. The boy- Derek- had body language that suggested repulsion. Lovely.

Jack: I walked silently, hands in my pockets, figuring asking her questions now would be stupid. She wouldn't be able to write down the answers. I nodded at the classroom when we came to it with a smile.
