Jace: I frown. "Are you mad about that? I could make myself less interesting if you wanted."

Tara: "Why do you think I'm mad?" I rolled back over, so I was on my back and looked at him.

Jace: "Well, for one thing you muttered it."

Tara: "That's because it was embarassing."

Jace: "If liking someone was embarrassing I would have been admiring you from afar."

Tara: "It's embarrassing for me," I muttered. "I don't usually tell people I like them."

Jace: I smile. "What if I promised not to tell anyone?"

Tara: "Well if I like you and you like me, then wouldn't you want to tell people? 'Cuz wouldn't that mean we'd start...dating?" I winced at the word.

Jace: I laugh. "Well then I'll tell them I fell madly in love with you, but you took some persuading."

Tara: "Whoa, love is a whole 'nother thing," I sat up, shaking my head.

Jace: "But you don't see the world like I do," I say gently.

Tara: "What does that have to do with it?"

Jace: "Maybe I'm still persuading you."

Tara: I sighed and closed my eyes, the fireworks over, and stars beginning to appear against the dark sky. "I can't even try to understand that right now."

Jace: "What if I make it easier for you?"

Tara: "Alright, go ahead and try to make it easier."

Jace: "I've been trying this whole time. What's your favorite animal?" I ask, changing the subject.

Tara: Now I was only more confused, but whatever. "I dunno, a monkey? Those little ones, like Curious George."

Jace: I raise an eyebrow. "Cartoon monkeys?"

Tara: I laughed and laid back down on the blanket. "Sure, that's what I meant."

Jace: I laugh. "Don't you think cartoon monkeys are...unrealistic?"

Tara: "I guess, but I meant monkeys like what he's based off of, not cartoon ones."

Jace: I sigh. "Have you ever seen a real monkey?"

Tara: "At the zoo."

Jace: "How long did you look at it?"
