Welcome to Highschool.

Lacey: I turned around, and almost bumped into a guy. "You have no idea." I said, grinning.

Max sighed and glanced at the girls map. "Well, heres your problem, love. The map is upside down." he flipped the map for her. "We are in the lower d wing right now. Where are you trying to go?

Lacey: I looked down at the floor. "Of course..." I muttered. The first person I meet and I act like an idiot. I look back up at his face. "The mess hall." I said, sighing.

"You are way of track. Other side of the school." max saw the girls look and sighed. "Why dont I show you the way? I'm heading there as well."

Lacey: "Its- its fine. Really. It's, uh, that way?" I said, pointing the way I came just a moment before.

"yea." Max nodded, and started to walk down the hall. "So, what's your name?" he asked her, glancing over his shoulder to her.

Lacey: I sighed. "Wait up!"

"Wait up is your name?" Max joked lightly. "Seriously, what is your name?" he asked her, glancing over his shoulder at her again.

Lacey: I caught up to him and faced him. "Lacey. My name is Lacey."

Jason shrugged and smiled. "Fable? Yeah, she's great. I don't know, but I think I really like her."

Max smiled over to her as she caught up. "I'm max." he started down the hall again, slower though so she didn't have to work so hard to catch up.

Ginger nodded at what he said. "Well...umm...that's good. I'm glad she's 'great'." She forced a smile and glanced down at her food as it came.

Lacey: I smiled. "So...what year are you?"

Jason straightened at the sight of the waitress. He realized the awkwardness of the conversation Ginger was trying to have with him and tried to figure out how to change the subject. He thanked the waitress and told her there was nothing else she could do for them, then he quickly unwrapped his silverware and shoved his fork in his bowl of rice.

"Junior. You?" Max opened the court yard door open for her. "Faster this way," he told her to stop any confusion she may have had.

Ginger ate silently, thinking to herself. She didn't want to lose her best friend to some crush he had. Not to mention she disliked the girl already.

Lacey: "Junior." I looked around. The courtyard was beautiful, and quiet, thank God.

(I'm not going to be here for two weeks...going to camp with no internet access. I'll try to get on with my phone, but no promises. Be back as soon as possible. Thanks )

Max nodded over to her. "Just move here? Either that or you have a really sucky memory when it comes to the campus." H teased her, a slight smile on his face.

Jason studied Ginger as he ate. He could tell something was bothering her, so it bothered him too. He had a good feeling it had to do with him too. "Ginger," he said, "how long have I known you?"

Ginger stopped eating and looked up at him. "We met in first grade, so...over a decade I think. Why?" where was he going with this? She started picking away at her bread roll.

Lacey: I hit his shoulder playfully. "Yeah. I'm staying with my...uncle. In town, we got an apartment." I sighed. I missed Walter, pre-plastic-surgeon-job. "So." I said, trying to perk up again.

Jason shook his head, "Well, after knowing you for about a decade, it's kind of hard not to notice when something's bothering you. So, tell me, what's wrong?"

Ginger just pushed her food around a bit. She thought about telling him, but decided against it. "It's nothing. Really." she smiled at him, but couldn't easily hide the sadness in her eyes. What was she expecting from him? To fall in love with her and forget about the other girl? Fat chance at that happening. Sh would only be a friend to him, and she knew it.

Jason watched Ginger poke at her food. Her light red hair fell around her face in soft curls. He wanted to reach out and stroke her hair, hold her close and tell her that everything would be alright. Alright between them and alright with her life, but he knew that Ginger wouldn't and couldn't be intimate like that with him. She needed someone smart and successful. Not someone like him. He who was a strictly B average student and decided he was going to take a year off after high school to figure out what exactly it was that he wanted to be for the rest of his life. Ginger wouldn't like him the way he had admired her since third grade. It was unthinkable that these two best friends could ever be more. And for this reason Jason felt the need to go after Fable. It was the only reason, really. If he and Ginger could be together it would be so much simpler. But Fable happened to be standing by the sidelines at his most vulnerable times over the summer and he slowly fell for her.

(Awwh!!! That is soooo cute!)

Ginger sighed and looked at her food. It pained her that they were so close, but would never be any closer. But it was a livable pain. She could deal with it. "What are you thinking about?" She finally asked him.
