The Summer that changed my life forever...

Dakota: "Why don't you just stay with Fiona? I can get a taxi to take me," I said, loud enough for her to hear, unlike Brok who tried to hide what he said from her.

Brok: What the heck? "I'm taking you, and that's final," I said. "Let's go."

Dakota: I rolled my eyes and continued walking, leaving the jet. Why couldn't I just take a taxi? It'd be so much easier, on both of us.

Brok: I followed her and pointed out my car, which happened to be black. "That's the car."

Dakota: I nodded and got in on the passenger side when we reached it, pulling my bag onto my lap and staring straight ahead.

Brok: I sat there for a moment without starting up the car. "Kota...look, I know you don't want to talk about this, but I'm really sorry I keep screwing up."

Dakota: I didn't reply to what he said. "Do you need directions to the airport?"

Brok: I sighed. "Are you just going to ignore everything I say?"

Dakota: I looked at him sidelong. "No. I just don't know what to say back to most of what you say."

Brok: "At least tell me something," I said. "I feel like I'm saying a bunch of stuff that's just not getting through to you. I mean, what more do you want me to do? I've done everything I could."

Dakota: "I...don't...know," I said really slowly, looking away from him and down at my hands. "It's just, I only yesterday figured out we've been dating a month. Only a month. Doesn't it feel like we're really serious for dating a month? Not that it bothers me. Or did bother me. If we're not dating now. Anyway."

Brok: I sighed. So we weren't dating anymore. "I feel like every time we break up, it's because of you," I said. "I know some of it is me too. Most of it, actually. But it's like nothing I do seems to make you happy, and it's really hard for me." That was why I wasn't able to date Fiona too, right? I didn't think it was worth it. But Kota was worth it...right?

Dakota: Oh, we were broken up? "Wait, we've broken up before?" Shit, I should remember that, if we had. Stupid me. I shook my head and focused. "What do you mean nothing makes me happy?..."

Brok: I sighed. "I don't know. I feel like everything I do just seems to make you mad. I feel like I can't do anything right."

Dakota: "Well if I'm /that/ bad, then why do you bother? You can't love someone who's always mad at you." What was I saying? Was I trying to make him break up with me? What was wrong with me?!

Brok: I folded my arms across my chest. "Can you answer a question for me, Dakota? Do you love me?"

Dakota: I rolled my eyes up at the car's ceiling, tilting my head back to look at it, too. "Of course I do. I've told you I do. A lot of times."

Brok: "Fiona didn't love me," I said. "She never did. I never truly loved her either. But you I love, Dakota. You know that, right?"

Dakota: I bit my lip. "I don't know."

Brok: I sighed. "I can't do anything to make you believe I love you, Dakota. But I do. I can't see myself with anyone besides you. You have to believe that."

Dakota: "Anyone besides me for how long? Another week? Another month?"

Brok: "Forever," I said. "Who else would color their nails with Sharpie and tolerate my weirdness?"

Dakota: I looked over at him, raising my eyebrows. "Forever? Are you sure?" I wanted to be with him for forever, too, but...I guess I was just skeptical. I'd been hurt too many times before.

Brok: I nodded. "Forever. There's no point in loving someone for a finite period of time, right?" According to Trey, anyway.

Dakota: "I...guess not," I said hesitantly. Forever. Me and Brok forever...."But if you break up with them, you don't love them anymore. Or you're not supposed to. But was there not a point then?"
