Unfinished Page

Nate smiled at her. "Should we head back to the hospital?" he asked, already knowing the answer to the question, but he felt that he needed to ask anyway.

Emily nodded a little, "Mmhm." She murmured slightly. She got up, taking his hand.

Nate took her hand and they drove back to the hospital and parked. They walked back to the N.I.C.U. and saw Gavin and Jess standing outside the room and looking in.
Nate did a slow jog until he reached them. "What's wrong?"

Jess turned to Nate and placed her hand on his arm. "It's alright, it's not Elena, it's another baby..."

Emily felt somewhat relieved but immediately ashamed at the same time. It's not all right. The parents must have been utterly distraught. She knew she and Nate would be if anything happened to Elena.

Nate looked over at Emily and knew she was thinking the same thing he was, that it wasn't alright. Another child was sick and probably getting worse. He closed the distance between them with a hug and a kiss to the top of her head.

Emily embraced him back, closing her eyes. Maybe trying to block out the thoughts and worries from her mind.

Nate rubbed her back and watched the nurses and N.I.C.U. doctor work on the little boy, tears welling up in his eyes.

Emily had to look eventually, and she couldn't help the tears pricking her eyes. She genuinely hoped and prayed that the small boy would be all right, like she did for her own daughter.

Nate blinked and turned to Emily. "Why don't we go sit down until we can get back in there." He suggested, glancing at Jess and Gavin.

Emily nodded slightly, "Okay." She said softly. She pulled away from him a bit but took his hand now as they all made their way to the open seats.

Nate sat close to Emily to keep her at ease, but it was also to keep himself calm and not worrying too much. They held hands as they talked with Gavin and Jess.

Eventually, they overheard the doctor talking with the parents, and by their reaction...it didn't end up well for them.

Today was the today. Emily could barely keep her excitement in when she woke up that morning. It was the day their little girl was finally coming home from the hospital.

Nate turned to Emily with a smile when she woke up. They were both extremely excited to have Elena home from the hospital today. He couldn't wait until they got there and were back home.

Emily couldn't help but giggle a bit and wrap her arms around his neck, giving him a peck on the lips before getting up. "C'mon, we gotta get dressed." She said, the anticipation leaking through her voice.

Nate smiled wide, he hadn't see Emily this happy and excited about something in a long time. It was good to see that on her, he missed it. He followed her into the closet to pick out clothes.

Emily didn't take much time picking something out and slipped into some jeans and a simple light pink blouse. She was putting on some flats when he came in and saved him some time by handing him a shirt. "Here, this one always looks nice on you."

Nate gave her a small smile as he took it and gave her a sweet kiss on the forehead. "Thanks, babe." He said before walking a few feet past her and pulling out a dark wash pair of jeans. He slopped on some Sperrys and was ready to go.

Emily couldn't help but smile a little to herself before walking out of the closet, through the bedroom, and into the bathroom. She grabbed her makeup bag, just putting on a little bit to look nice. "I'll be finished in a sec." She stated as she finished her lipstick and went back out to join him.

Nate smiled at her and took her hand as they walked downstairs, his excitement growing with each step closer to the hospital.

Emily glanced over at him and a smile curved her lips almost instantly. She only let go of his hand to go over and grab the baby carrier from the other room. Soon enough, they had left for the hospital and were there, walking down the hallway towards the N.I.C.U where they were greeted happily. The nurses had gotten to see them a lot, after all, with her and Nate visiting almost every single day.

Nate turned and saw her smile, it made him happy to finally see her happy again.
Nate smiled at the nurses and greet them by name when they got to the N.I.C.U. He thanked them for everything that they had done for Elena and then turned to an excited Emily.
