Milos hands curled into fists. "What happened?! Why did she take over?"

When nobody else answered, Finn said "Bad dreams, if I'm not mistaken."

"What?" Milo said breathlessly, exasperation sweeping across his features.

Ami
"She trapped me in my memories. And then she took me..."

I felt awkward, like some interloper who had no place here. Actually, that's really what I was. This was clearly some deeply personal stuff, and I realized that I had no right to be listening to it.
I wish I had enough energy to shift away right now, I thought.
Yeah, I wish you did, too, Aiolii responded.

"God damn it, stop talking so figuratively!" Milo paced back and forth shaking his head. "I should have been here!"

Kaaaaaaay. *waits eagerly for a response*

Cricket cocked his head. "Calm down. Everyone's a'right...no need t' stomp around."

"I made a promise..."Milo said softly "and once again I wasnt able to keep it" He buried his face in his hands with a frustrated moan, and leaned his head backwards. A few beats later his hands collapsed to his sides and he just stared up at the stars. His thoughts drifted far away, to a chipper little boy sitting on a porch step, waiting for him to come back. Milo laughed darkly as he realized that it wasn't him would wouldnt be coming back, but the boy. Nothing had been done to save him, and nothing had been done to save Ami. Heat boiled up inside his chest "why didn't you do anything?"

Ami
I watch him. "Milo, don't. You can't protect me from myself. It just happens..."

"And that's good enough for you, is it? That 'it just happens' ? " Milo shook his head sharply "well it's not good enough for me."

"Milo...some things we can't control. You, of all people should know that, aye?" Cricket said after a moment.

I shake my head. "It isn't but i don't have much of a choice. I can't stop it, neither can you." I swallow hard. "And one of these times Ami isn't coming back. She's winning, Milo. She's coming back one of these days."

"Oh, I know it. I think If anyone knows that we don't have control its us. The issue here is that I seem to be the only one who thinks that its a problem. The only one who feels a need to change that."

"A'right, well what solution do you propose?" Cricket's voice had a slight edge to it. That surprised him a little.

Ami
"There isn't one for me! The point is i can't. I can't anymore..." I feel the prick of tears. "I tried, and Ami came, but i can't beat down what's ingrained in me. Ayakashi's coming back. I...I can /hear/ her. A small voice in my head, echoing around... She's winning, Milo...I can't fight her anymore..." My voice dissolves into a sob.

"More than what you guys are proposing we do. Sit around and wait for Ayakashi to take over, Ami? To never find a place to call finally call home, Crick? For..." Milo trailed off. His throat stuck for a moment before he finished with "Whatever we do is better than nothing, better than going down without a fight." When he finished Ami spoke. "Don't talk like that Ami!" Milo walked over and put his hands on her shoulders. "Don't give up on me!" Milos voice constricted at the end, a lump forming.

Cricket felt a wave of anger wash over him. "But what's th' point of fighting if you never win? What then? You die full of anger because you were so busy chasing after what you can never 'ave? Why not just enjoy what there is, and leave it at that? What then?"

"What then? We wonder for the rest of our lives if it could have ended up differently. Think about it. I for one would die full of anger anyway. Anger with myself. For not trying when I had the chance."

Ami
I shake under Milo's hands. My lips press into a thin line and i reach up, touch his head a moment. I close my eyes. Her laughter echoes, echoes, echoes.

I back up out of his hands, cradle my head in my hands. "Never there before, never so close...she makes me feel crazy. I don't have that chance. She's coming back; it's not something to be argued about!"

"What if there isn't a chance? You can't change th' past and th' furture is decided, and if nobody asks what you think about it!" Cricket didn't seem to hear Ami.
