Jackie: I let out a breath. "Why not? Last time I checked, normal vampires didn't keep hostages. They just killed anyone they drank from."

Vane: "But kidnapping takes too much work. I don't like doing work," I said, shrugging.

Jackie: I raised an eyebrow. "Isn't it more work keeping me alive?"

Vane: "Nah. Wait. Did we feed you yet?" Humans had to eat, right?

Jackie: I sighed. "I'm not hungry."

Vane: "Are you sure?" I hoped she wasn't trying to starve herself to death.

Jackie: I glared at him. "Are you sure you aren't thirsty? It's my body. I'm sure I know if I'm hungry or not." And I was...

Vane: "Whatever," I said. "How often are you supposed to eat?"

Jackie: I purse my lips. "Once a month."

Vane: I frowned. "You're lying."

Jackie: I laughed. "Really now? I thought you'd do something more entertaining than stating the obvious."

Vane: "Maybe I like stating the obvious."

Jackie: "Hmm, good for you. But it's not gonna get you anywhere."

Vane: "Why does it matter if it gets me anywhere?"

Jackie: I shrugged. "You were the one who asked me how often I needed to eat. So let me state the obvious: Obviously, I can't go a month without food. Nor do I need food every single day. So make your hypothesis out of that."

Vane: I frowned. "I thought you people need food twice or three times a day."

Jackie: "Normal people. But nowadays, we eat once every three weeks," I said perkily, with a smile on my face.

Vane: "Oh," I said. "Uh, I'll get you something, then. What do you want?"

Jackie: I shake my head. "I told you. Nothing."

Vane: "Come on. You must want something."

Jackie: "I...uh...ate at the party. Yeah, lots of pizza. I'll be good for another three weeks."

Vane: I frowned. "Are you sure you're not just trying to starve yourself?"

Jackie: I raised an eyebrow. "Would I tell you if I were?"

Vane: "Would you?" I didn't know.

Jackie: I shrugged, deciding to be honest. "Nah, I wouldn't. Are you going to leave me alone now?"
