Mark gave her a small smile. "I like that name." He said as he continued to help her build, his blue eyes sparkling happily. He still didn't understand why Sara, the big girl, was being nice to him. But he wasn't about to complain.

"What's that supposed to mean?!" I demanded, fuming. "And if you're not from Britain, then where are you from?"

I'd never seen anybody so surprised to have been greeted. All I'd said was "hi."

"Uh, what're your names?" I asked them.

The black-haired one had a black kitten animal, and the blonde one had a puppy animal. Their animals both looked confused, wary, and surprised, just like they did.

Tickety
Woah. She s'ploded. And that one hadn't been meant to be taken as an insult. "Nothing, jus' said it explains a lot! Sheesh. You act very American s'all," I explained apologetically, and crossed my arms, studying her...except my hat was in the way. "Lu'Nuova."

Finn
Huh. Well. Maybe things were different here...right? I mean...a place like this didn't seem sketcy at all...maybe they were just being nice. I smiled shyly. "Finn."

Cricket whistled something softly to me before looking back at the two other kids. "I'm Cricket...what about you?"

Alyson
I ran inside the room. "Whoa!" i said, "this place is huge!" Johnny helped the other kids in and Ale came from behind Jamie.
"Be good" Ale said to Jamie
"Okay Ale" Jamie smiled and waited for Ale say goodbye to the rest of us. Then she ran to the other side of the room. She looked mean. So i walked over to Lyla. She was holding a little teddy bear with wings on it.
"I like your bear" i said
"Thanks!" She answered, "Ale gave me it"
"Cool, she gave me this lollipop!"
"Thats cool too! Do you want to play?" lyla asked
"Sure!" i said and we ran off to play with the train.

Johnny
I cant believe Ale left me at a daycare center! Im nine not two! After Alyson and her friends went to play i was left with Ryan. He seemed about eight. Jake ran over to play with some cars.
"Hey" i said to Ryan
"Hey" he said back. I leaned against the wall, waiting for Ale to come back already.

Sarah

"Sorry I yelled," I said. "Anyway, I haven't heard of that country before. What continent is it in?"

Nike

"Thank you," I said to Mark with a nod. "Your name's nice, too."

Honesty and politeness. I've always been taught to be both honest and polite. But my mom says that sometimes I'm too honest. I...don't really get that. How can somebody be too honest?

Peter

"I'm Peter," I said.

"My name ees Senet," Senet said beside me. He was getting better at saying that, and he didn't say it with as much of an accent as he used to. "Euh...nice to...meet you...?" He gave me another questioning look.

"Tu...es...droite?" I answered.

"Tu as raison," he corrected.

Sometimes it was hard living with Senet when we couldn't understand each other. But we were trying. And the more we talked, the more we could learn to understand each other.

I had to think about that one for a brief moment. I'd always thought of Luna as its own little world. "I think it's Europe. Wait. Africa. Aye. It's an island, never really thought of it as part of a continent...or really looked at a map t' be sure, even."

"Huh. That's interesting," I commented.

Africa...that would explain why I'd never heard of it. There were so many tiny countries in Africa...

Kylia came running over to Mark and tugged on his arm. "Mark? Do we have to stay here? That lady looks mean." She said, her eyes still rimmed red, cheeks wet with tears, and lips pushed out in a pout. Mark rolled his eyes.
"Yes, Ky, we gots to stay."

"Tu what?" Oh bother. I think my ears just had a stroke. Or maybe those were just more words I'd forgotten.

"French, I think," Cricket said, looking to the two in question.

"You have to stay," I corrected Mark. "'Gots' is not a word."

Ugh...crying. I didn't like crying. Couldn't stand it, really. What did crying solve? Absolutely nothing. It served no purpose other than making your eyes wet.

Kylia looked at Nike with reproach and frowned. "Come on Mark! Let's go! I don't want to be here!"
"We can't go anywhere!" Mark frowned.
"Fine!" She let go of his arm and stomped away and broke through a group of kids as she stomped over to the tree house looking thing in the corner.

"Yeah, it's French," I told them. "He's from France. He's teaching me French, and I'm teaching him English."

"I'm sohrry," Senet said to the other boys, pronouncing the words carefully, "but I don't speak...many? Eengleesh..."

"You don't speak a lot of English," I informed him.

"Aagh, l'anglais, c'est trop difficile!"

"Le français est trop difficile!"

Ugh...more things I didn't like. Crankiness and tantrums. Small children were just so...unbearable sometimes. I think I was the oldest one here, which did not sit well with me. It would've been nice to have another bigger kid around...

Alyson
Lyla and me started playing with the train.
"Choo Choo!" i yelled and Lyla laughed.
"Choo Choo!" she said and i laughed.

Johnny
These kids were so annoying. There was too much screaming and yelling, it hurt my ears. Ryan sighed
"How long are we gonna have to stay here?" He asked
I shrugged, who knew how long it would be.

I whistled quickly to Finn, French? Think they know how to whistle too?

No, haven't found anyone who can yet. I think we're the only twos here.

...only twos?

Aye, only...oh. Only...ones? Messed up that note. Only ones? Is that the right note?...Haven't quite got the hang of it...

"I know," I said with a chuckle.

The whistling... Senet and I were getting all stiff and anxious again, even though we knew there was no danger. We gave each other sort of pained looks.

"Why're you...whistling like that?" I asked the two other boys.

"I told you they didn't know," I said, cocking my head at how they tightened up. It was just whistling...had I said something? "What's th' matter? We talk like that."

"Aye, sorry if it's loud or something," Cricket added. We got yelled at a lot for being loud. Although most of the time people only looked annoyed, never scared like that.

"No, it's just..." I shook my head quickly. "It reminds us of the bombs. Whenever we hear something that sounds anything like a whistle, our first instinct is to get inside and get underground...if we can. If not, our second instinct is to get down, cover our heads, and pray to the gods that we don't get hit." I shrugged. "And what do you mean you talk like that?"

"So like..." I started, "when you whistle like that, it means stuff? Like words?"

This was interesting...if I was understanding him correctly. A language of whistles? I probably would've found that a lot cooler if it weren't so ingrained in my mind to run and hide at the slightest whistle-esque sound.

I nodded. "Like words."

" 'Cept...well, sometimes they're warnings almost like th' bomb thing, like...coded warnings." Finn said, and glanced over his shoulder at Tickety. "Watch this. This's me, mind you, not a bomb." I whistled, Blood river. Tickety picked it up and her gaze shot around warily. In an nutshell, the phrase meant someone had been hurt by somebody else. "See?"

"She's gonna kill you if she finds out it's a false alarm," I said.

"She'll live," Finn replied.

"Um...oh," I said. I didn't understand the words, but I knew a way that I could.

Ses, can you touch one of their animals when they're gonna whistle again? I wanna know what they're saying.

Sure.

Sarah

I looked at Tickety curiously. Her mood had changed really quickly...

"What's wrong?" I asked.

I glanced back at Sarah, clutching my watch. "Nothing, I'm fine...just thought I 'eard something--" Then I noticed Sir Bugalot and Mister Amnesia. My eyes narrowed. "Nothing at all. Pardon me a moment." I walked gracefully over to the group. There had better be a good excuse.

Just a demonstration, Finn whistled. Sorry about that.

What about when there's actually someone hurt? It's not funny! Don't mess with me like that.

Alright, I said I was sorry!

Apology accepted. Just go back to playing with Leggos or something. With one final look I turned on my heel and headed back to Sarah.

"Oh, so it means that someone is hurt?" I asked, forgetting that most people didn't react well when I read their minds. "And what're Legos?"
