Baylor Boarding School

Derek - "He's a good kid," I say. He was, I could see myself in him.

Tara: I nodded. "They all are, growing up with nothing does that to a person." I hated how someone like Derek had everything, while poor Dominic had nothing.

Derek - "Dominic doesn't have nothing," I say quietly, "he has character, a goal, and a dream for what he wants in life, he has everything."

Tara: "Sounds more like you're describing yourself. Dominic has nothing - but you wouldn't understand, since you were practically born with a credit card. You wouldn't know 'nothing' if it slapped you in the face," I snapped and turned on my heel, entering the school.

Derek - I followed her angrily, "Money has nothing to do with it! Money isn't as important as people think! and you don't know NOTHING about my life so don't judge my past by what you see right now!"

Tara: "If it wasn't important to you, then you wouldn't become a businessman," I snapped back, then ran inside my room and latched the door behind me.

Derek - I wanted to pound on her door until she came out but I didn't instead I fell to the ground and just sat there. She didn't know me at all, and what she said was evidence to that. No one other than Anastasia knew me.

Tara: I slid to the ground on my side of the door. Was he still out there? "You know, staying outside my door can be considered stalking?"

Derek - "You know judging someone should be against your morals," I say back.

Tara: I stayed silent for a moment, "It is..." I said weakly, and felt like a hypocrite now that he had pointed that out.

Derek - "Good," I say, I felt bad for using that on her but I still didn't like that I had been judged. She knew nothing about my past. She didn't know anything about my dad... or my mom.

Tara: "But people don't always follow their morals - there are always exceptions," I said, figuratively getting back on my feet in this argument.

Derek - "What makes me the exception?" I ask.

Tara: "Because..." I racked my brain for an answer. I sighed. "I dunno - just because you're Derek."

Derek - "Because I'm me I'm the exception?" I wonder.

Tara: I rolled my eyes. "Sure. Just make the best of it - at least you're getting special treatment."

Derek - "I'll try to," I laugh a little.

Tara: I smiled, though he couldn't see. "Maybe that was a hint."

Derek - "If it was it wasn't a good one," I laugh, "that can be taken both ways..."

Tara: "I dunno if it's a bad hint. I give all the kids I tutor 'special attention', and I absolutely adore them," I bit my lip, wondering what his reaction was to that on the other side of the door.

Derek - I smile, "Then I must be getting off to a good start."

Tara: "That depends if you take the hint."

Derek - "I will, I will," I say.

Tara: "And just what are you going to do with the hint you've been given?"

Derek - "I'm not sure, but I'll figure something out."
