Aw. Well, me too I guess...but we really should unfreeze it sometime. It's been stuck for weeks.

Milo collapsed on top of the covers, a comfy feeling enveloping the space as Sparrow scooted in beside him. "Sure..." he answered sleepily a little late to her request. The clean smell of laundry detergent drifted in the air as Sparrow turned on her side to face him.

Sounds good, maybe in the morning

I nestled myself against him and sighed, glad to see the world righting itself again. My fingers found his hand and entwined them together as I slipped into a soft mini coma. I think thats the first time I've ever fallen asleep smiling...

At some point, Sarah stands and goes back to Emily. At some point, the two of them quiet in sleep. I glance down and Mo sleeps as well. I sit up from the couch and look around the dim living room.
It hurts. Why, why, why? I don't understand. Maybe i can't understand. I cradle my head in my hands, shaking. Confused, unsure, childish...naive, was it? Never supposed to have these emotions. Now that i did they were destroying me. I don't want them.
My expression goes blank slowly. Heartache, i don't want it. I silently stand, leave Mo in the blanket. I glance around. Emily, Sarah, Jess, Mo. Kim was somewhere else. My fault. All my fault. My eyes wander to the door. I pull up my sleeve to study my brand. No more. I don't want to hurt anymore. I fly over silently, unlock the door, and slip out.
Where am i going? I stop in the middle of the street. No where to go now. Just like last time. "Ayakashi?"
/Yes, darling?/
"Where...?"
I feel the shadow of her smile creep onto my face. /Back, Ami./
"Back..." My vision blurs, i close my eyes. /Please.../
She opens hers. "Of course, Sleeping Beauty." We fly up into the night silently.

While zey wehre talkeeng outside ze school, I saw a strange light achross ze way. I snuck off to eenvesteegate, and zat's when eet all changed." I paused. "Zehre wehre Sybek zehre. Zey wehre snatcheeng up all ze cheeldhren and sheefteeng away weez zem. Zey deesappeahred weez eahrspleetteeng chracks and buhrsts of blue and white light. Befohre I knew eet, one of ze Sybek ghrabbed me, too.

"We wound up een a dahrk place. Eet was damp and cold. Ze ozehr keeds wehre talkeeng, but I deedn't speak Eengleesh zen. I only knew a few wohrds zat ze Fhrench use like 'week-end.' Anyway, aftehr a while, ze Sybek came fohr us again. Zey led us outside to zees fenced-off ahrea and shoved us een. I deedn't know eet at ze time, but ze ahrea was zat plane's connection to ze Centehr of ze Planahr Univehrse. Ze cheeldhren stahrted vaneesheeng. I stumbled eento anozehr boy about ze same age as me, and we vaneeshed togezehr.

"Ze two of us fell fhrom zat plane to ze Centehr. Eet was...eet was...eet feelled me weez awe. Eet was zees ball of eemposseeble size, made of enehrgy and shooteeng off blue and white light. Eet was so 'uge, I couldn't see whehre eet cuhrved away. Eet bombahrded us weez eets light as we fell towahrds eet, and eet felt as zough...as zough we would be consumed by eet. Eet was like you could hreach out and touch eets powehr. Eet was at ze same time a tremendous, glorious sight to behold and a puhre tehrrohr. Time lost all meaneeg as we fell to eets suhrface--we could've been zehre fohr half a second ohr a zousand yeahrs. Ze boy, Petehr, and I wehre so scahred zat we actually ghrabbed each ozehr's 'ands. Zat's eempohrtant to note, by ze way, because we wehre makeeng contact. Eet's like a sheeft; we 'ad made contact to fall een togezehr, and we would be sent off togezehr because of ouhr contact.

"And zat's what ze Centehr deed. As eet cihrculates life and enehrgy, eet cihrculated us. We wehre shot off ahround ze suhrface to some ozehr plane. Ze planes...zey wehre eenchredeeble, too. All ahround us was a cuhrtain of black, weez sheemehrs een ze aihr zat wahrped and tweested ahround and zhrough each ozehr. Zose wehre ze planes. Whenevehr ze light fhrom ze Centehr would heet zem--wheech was countless times evehry second--zey would spahrkle and shine like a sea of stahrs. Petehr and I 'eaded towards one een pahrticulahr, and zjust as we 'eet eet, we blacked out.

"We woke up on ze side of an old, bhroken hroad. Ouhr 'eads wehre poundeeng. Ze exposuhre to ze Centehr 'ad tuhrned us eento bondehrs. We saw a ceety een ze deestance, so we went to eet. I alhready mentioned a beet about ze ceety. We spent ze next two yeahrs zehre, unteel we 'appened to hrun eento some bondehrs fhrom ze Ohrganization 'oo took us een.

"I fight ze Sybek een pahrt because I am a bondehr, but most of all because of ze life zey hreepped away fhrom me. I don't know what plane I come fhrom, so I can't go back. Ze bondehrs may be my fameely now, but I 'aven't seen my hreal fameely een eight yeahrs. Zey probably zeenk I'm dead. Even eef I could go back, zeengs would nevehr be ze same. Ze Sybek made me a bondehr, wheech means zat zey ahre now a constant, deadly zhreat. One touch fhrom a Sybek now, and I would die. Even so, I steell 'old on to ze 'ope zat someday, I'll find ze plane I was bohrn on, and I'll find my fameely. Even eef I could no longehr leeve weez zem, I zjust want to see zem. To let zem know zat I'm okay. To feel my mozehr 'ug me...

"Ah, zut. I'm getteeng all senteemental." I laughed without humor. "Well, zat's my stohry...at least, ze shohrt vehrsion. Zat's why I fight. Eet's childeesh, hreally... Do I zeenk zat by takeeng a Sybek's life, I can hregain my old one? Eet can't happen. Nozeeng weell evehr replace zose eight yeahrs, and all ze yeahrs to come." I sighed and gave a half-hearted shrug of my shoulders.

When Cricket woke, it was already light outside. Sometime in the night he'd rolled off onto the floor and was curled up next to the rickety old couch, where Develyn was tucked away in the crevices like a nest. He yawned and shook the hair out of his eyes. Ouch. Bright. He wondered if anyone else was up yet.

Jess woke with a yawn. "Well, i haven't felt so rested in a while."
"You slept almost all day yesterday," Emily joked. She blinked awake as well and looked around.
Kim pours a cup of coffee. "About someone else but me wakes up."
"You're a freaking night owl, Kim," Jess teases and stands, going over to get her own cup.
Sarah blinks awake as well, looks around. She pauses and looks around. "Where's Ami?"
Kim shrugged. "Roof."
Sarah studies her. "No, she's not."

Cricket appeared in the entryway to the kitchen, looking sleepy. He was so quiet nobody seemed to notice him until he whistled something in greeting.

"Is this a MIA moment?" Jess asked slowly.
Emily paused. "Mo?" She walks over to the couch, the little alien still sleeping. "Mo..."
His yellow orbs blink open. /Ami -/ He blinks more, confused. /Ami?/
"Is she around?" Emily asks hesitantly.
He floats up quickly, flying a circle. /Ami, Ami, Ami.../
Kim frowned. "Taking that as a no..." She looks over at Cricket when he whistles.
