New Kids on the Block

"Bram Stoker? You interested in vampires? I can either let you read Dracula, or find you some more... precise works."

Ruby: I raise an eyebrow. Precise? We're talking about fictional characters. There's nothing "precise" about them. I sigh. "/Yes/, I want to read Dracula."

Conor:
I shrug, "Sure" I then use alchemy to return the desk to its normal state, "Want a different one?"

"No, I'm fine, thanks," growls Carter. "Vampires? Fictional? I take it you haven't been living in Arkham very long, have you?"

Conor:
I laugh, "My best friend is a werewolf, and my girlfriend is a werewolf too! I've lived in Arkham my whole life. I know how to handle myself here" I say even though the question wasn't directed at me.

"Werwolves? Pah. I hear tell that there's a shoggoth in the municipal sewers. Ever heard of one of them? They say it stowed away when the Antarctic expedition returned in 1920."

Conor:
"Intelligent fungus right?" I ask. "And my werewolf friends can't be killed by anything, well at least that I know of, they kind of avoid silver and fire though"

"In Arkham, lots of things will kill werewolves. Even if there is nothing here to kill them, things can happen to them that will make them beg for death."
Carter is breathing heavily now. "They cannot survive having their heads torn from their bodies and eaten while the very flesh corrodes from their bones and turns to s sickly goo. That is what shoggoths do."

Conor:
"Lovely, and yes they can actually, it may take some time but my friends will regenerate, even if they need to start from scratch I still can't figure it out. They say I think too logically being an alchemist they say I see magical things daily and that I need to quit over thinking"I say shrugging and ask, "So was i right? Is a shaggoth a intelligent fungus?"

"No. A Mi-Go is an intelligent fungus. The shoggoth has magic too. I don't care if you're Gandalf, Merlin or Harry Potter, there is no magic that can bring you back from a shoggoth attack. Even the great old ones think twice before they tackle a shoggoth, and they can kill you without ever touching you."

Conor:
"Well, I have recently figured out it isn't magic that brings my werewolf friends back, it is a naturally occuring alchemy. The same type used to make a homunculus. They come back from anything!"

Ruby: I clear my throat as I get more and more uncomfortable. When the fuck did this become Arkham Asylum? Next I'll be told to watch out for the faries that steal innocent freshmen to use for their ceremonies. "Look, can you just point me in the right direction? I'll find it on my own."

(HA! Love the Batman reference!)
Conor:
"I don't know what you looking for" I say shrugging.

Couldn't resist.

Ruby: "Dracula. I want to rent Dracula," I say for what feels like the thousandth time. "Look, is now a bad time? Or is there someone a little less..." Insane? "...Busy that can help me out?"

Conor:
"Nah, I got it" I pull out a knife and laugh at her, I then cut a transmutation circle into my flesh mimicking the faint scar that was already there, "I needed to re do that anyway" I say. Then I put my hands on a bookshelf and blue sparks spark along it and my arms and then Dracula appears on the floor in front of her, "And that my friends is how you use transmutation to summon"

Ruby: My eyes widen as they fly from the pale guy to the freakish magician and back again. That was all some kind of effect, right? Smoke and mirrors and all that jazz? But the guy smells like death and the outside, a combination that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I feel myself backing up towards the doors. For some reason, all I can think about is how /dirty/ this "Dracula" dude is. "I-I-I think it's time for me to leave."

Conor:
"Why are you so scared?" I ask, "Its just alchemy, and no, Im not a magician, I'm an alchemist there is a difference. Alchemy is a science, Law of Equivalrnt exchange and all that, magicians... I dont know what thye do"

Ruby: My back hits the door and I start fumbling with the handle. Oh, so he can read my mind too? I knew I shouldn't have left my room! Stupid, stupid, stupid book! The pale guy leers at me and I'm on the verge of screaming. "I'm not scared, just leave me alone alright?"

Conor:
"You know alchemy is a learned skill right? I can even teach you if you want, its what Im majoring in" I say a little confused at her fear, this is Arkham after all.

Carter appears from behind a shelf, "Stop where you are, mister. Can't you tell she's scared?"
He opens the necronomicon, and for the first time is able to read it. Little does he know he is being manipulated by the book. He raises a hand.
"Phn'Glui Mglw'Nafh Cthulhu R'Lyeh Wgah'Nagl Fhtagn!" He intones.

Conor:
"What are you doing?" I ask.

"It's a spell of binding," replies Carter. "It will keep you away from her."
Once again, Carter has been fooled by the book. He is in fact summoning the Mi-Go at that very instant, and doesn't realise.

((Basically, this is Lovecraft's universe, so his rules are law. A shoggoth can kill any creature up to the size of a steam train, whether it be human, vampire, Mi-Go, werewolf, or Puff the Magic Dragon.))

(What if alchemy it to kill it first? =) )
Conor:
"Yeah okay you do that" I say shrugging. Then I sit and a chair sparks from the floor and catches me.

((It won't appear immediately. It has been summoned, but it will be here in its own time.))

"Are you prepared to be calmer now?" asks Carter. He frowns. "Why isn't it working?"

Conor:
"Maybe because magic is fake, smoke and mirrors"
