CHARACTER CHAT!!!!

Winnie whistled a short greeting over her shoulder. "Nice accent, Outlander. Now would you two 'urry up? My grandpapa walks faster'n you, an' 'e's dead!"

Cricket found his way to the dark cellar stairs and pushed her along before she bit someone's head off or something.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. I hadn't been walking slowly at all. Well, whatever.
When we came to the stairs, Senet lit up a ball of light in his hand.

It was strange walking up the stairs using a light. Cricket had gotten tired of carrying around a lighter years ago, so he'd been walking up them in the dark. "Forgot what those looked like," he commented, and heaved up on the heavy wooden doors until they gave. "C'mon. Quickly now." He climbed out and held the door.

"Après-vous, s'il vous plaît," Senet said to Winnie with a grin. Not that he needed to use the vous form with a younger person; he was just being polite, I guess. That's more than I can say for myself--I probably would've used the tu form. But I digress.

Winnie gave Senet a wierd look. "What 'bout gibberish?" She climbed up through the door, tripped on the final step and almost toppled into the water. Cricket caught her arm.

"Don't do that," he said with a glance to the two French guys. " 'urry now."

((Lol, Peter isn't French, remember? xD))

"Sohrry," Senet said with a shrug. "All ze Eengleesh speakehrs I know at least know what zat means. I wasn't expecteeng...well, nevehrmind. What I said was 'Aftehr you, eef you please,' by ze way."
We continued on.

xD I know. But Cricket just lumps them together.


Winnie whistled something quickly, still only held up by Cricket. " 'ear that? That was me saying I don't do chivalry."

Cricket shrugged and let go of her arm. With a shriek she toppled into the muggy water. "Suit yourself."

"You. Fucking. Bastard!" She splashed back to the surface. As she climbed back onto the stone she let loose of all accent, whistling and just plain spite in a flurry of strange tune-like curses. Cricket just stood there smiling as she splattered water all over in the scene. "Geez..." she finished, and cocked an eyebrow at Cricket. "What're you smiling at, Joker?"

He crushed her in a hug and a grin. "You 'ave no idea 'ow much I've missed 'earing someone else do that!"

She pushed him away. "Igh...you smell like blood and idiot."

"Hey, if you get to talk in that crazy whistle language," I began, "I think we should get to talk in French."
"Ce n'est que justice!" Senet put in, a sly smile on his face. "Ah, nous pouvons dire les choses les plus insultants, et ils ne les comprendraient pas!"
"Aha, ouias," I agreed, laughing. "Enfants des salopes!"
"Ahahaha!"

lol...I'm curious as to what they're saying...

"Getting a bit loud, there," Cricket said, glancing around as he led them across a narrow bridge.

Winnie followed, squeezing water out of her hair and wiping off Cricket's hug. She realised she was blushing. "Igh..." She caught a sketchy-looking passerby eyeing them. She crossed her arms, sticking close to the group. "What'cho lookin' at, Crack'ead?" And the passerby was gone.

"Looks like a pleasant place to live," I commented dryly. "At least the city where Senet and I spent two years didn't have a whole lot of people in it."

((Senet said, "It's only fair!" (Literally, "It's nothing but justice!" That's the French equivalent of the phrase.) "Ah, we could say the most insulting things, and they wouldn't understand them!"
Peter said, "Aha, yeah." And then...well...nevermind ))

Cricket shrugged. "Y'get used t' it," he said, absentmindedly leaping over a canal and helping Winnie do the same. "Not all people 'ere are all bad, though...well, maybe some of 'em are bad morals-wise, but really they couldn't 'urt a fly if they tried."

"Ah, that's different from the city, then," I said. Senet and I easily leaped across the canal. "There weren't a lot of people, but almost all of them were homicidal maniacs. Well, I should rephrase that; they weren't out to kill each other. Let's just say that I'm glad I don't burn. Of course, it furthered the 'child with heat and fire powers is really a demon in disguise' theory."

*dodges behind the wall all ninja like* Yikes!

Winnie listened confusedly. He didn't burn? "Pardon?"

Cricket ignored her. She didn't really need to know. "I feel your pain. If you 'aven't noticed, I'm a black-'aired guy in a sea of blondes. Stand out like a sore thumb, and some people like t' take that difference and bring it t' extremes." He whistled something into an alley. "According t' common society; ghost, demon, animal, freak, whatever they call it, I'm not like them. Managed t' slide by without getting killed for it, so far, mostly from dumb luck."

Hmmm....no idea. If Cricket were there he would be ranting about how he now has to lay down a few ground rules while they're staying there, but then again, the above prediciment...hey, maybe Finn could do it?
