"My turn? For what? Telling my life story? Nah," i breathe out in a small, dry, humorless laugh.

Finn cocked his eyebrow stubbornly. "You want t' do this th' easy way, or th' 'ard way?"

Kim
I sigh, roll my eyes and give him a look. "I'd love to see you try a 'hard way'," i say in a breath, a playful smile on my face.

Finn shrugged. "If all else fails I can just find something t' blackmail you on. Classic."

Kim
I laugh. "Oh but nothing can burn like me, mister," i point out, snapping my fingers for a spark.

"I don't mind fire. It's kinda pretty," Finn said, walking on.

Kim
I sigh, crossing my arms. "Well...met Emily in high school and we got accepted to the same college. Frosh year went fine - and by that time my brother had graduated. He got us summer jobs at the Institute. Just little badger work, secretaries basically.
"From what I've learned Ami had already arrived there and they were working on a trial drug from her. She was getting meds for her immune system and wanted to give back to the place. So they did experiments on her and found out about her secrets. They didn't know it, but the place was corrupt, just looking for the next big money dealer. And they thought up creating super soldiers and whatnot to sell to the military or private companies that would be interested in those powers.
"The first trial ran a month after Em and I came in. They didn't know what the Institute was planning though. They thought they were simple drug trials for a cure. And instead they got powers..." I fall silent a moment. "But the first trials had some side effects and limits to their powers.
"Sarah's a first trial, and she can't turn her power /off/. Just always hearing other people's thoughts in her head. So much so that she loses it for a few moments. Aiden was another first trial, who can make worm holes but they become unstable if he brings more than one person through with him at a time. And Dan was the technopath. But he lost all emotions, steadily over time. Sort of a slow torture for him. And he found escape from that fact in Ami. For...a little while...
"But Ems and I had been used to seeing Dan and Aiden every day, and when they suddenly disappeared we knew something was up. We went to investigate, ended up in the trial room, got a new dose of the drug, and now we've got powers too," i sum up quickly, not really wanting to go on from there. My personal story from there is /a little/ rocky to say the least...

*reads, reads, reads*

Finn nodded. "Aye...I've 'eard that much. But you've got me curious..." He was a little tentative. "What 'appened after that?"

Kim
I'm silent for a moment, just letting the memories come back. "Aiden had ran with Dan and Sarah from the Institute, but he came back to mess with the computers and erase all their data on Ami, set them a few years back technologically. And that was when we had snuck in and had been dosed. Em and I passed out."
I frown a moment, looking away slightly. "Aiden came, but like I said he could only take one of us. He saved Emily and the Institute captured me, not wanting another one of their freaks out.
"While Dan lost his emotions, I spiraled out of control. Ami knew of the drug's final result and managed to piece somethings together herself. And as we know, she doesn't like being used like an object. She broke me out and I destroyed the place. She went flying off when the law enforcements came and I...retaliated a bit more..."
I fidget uncomfortable with it all. "Em made Aiden take her there and she snapped me out of it and took me back to our original hideout. Ami found us a few weeks later, sickly and weak from her immune thing. Aiden makes her cures now. She still has to go back every now and again for that..."

Ami
It's cold. It's damp. It's unclean. Aren't those things to make you sick? Even a simple common cold. I'd...die.... Yes, I'd die. Leave everyone alone. Maybe they could sort out whatever without me always there. They'd probably be happier without me.
Voices ahead but I don't much care. I want to die, so maybe I'll just let some gangster stab me with a knife. Though he doesn't do something fatal my power's fighting back for me. Never mind... I'll just get sick, weak, hopeless, dead. Rather reminded me of 51's experiments.

Finn studied her. "Do you regret any of it?"

Kim
"That's rather..." I stop, frowning again. "It's not like I.... Bah, next question," i say frustrated at trying to word it.

Finn thought carefully a moment. "A'right...are you...afraid of what could 'appen next? Th' future, I mean."

Kim
"Well, yeah," I mumble. "I might not have a chance to live normally ever. I may not ever do the normal stuff in life....find someone, get married, have a kid. Hell, even get a job and a career. The government is obsessed with tracking us down for weapons and science projects. It doesn't seem like they're letting up any time soon. Maybe we'll all just lose it and go crazy. Maybe the dose will finally ware off and we'll be back to normal. But the flip side of that too. Maybe the dose will never stop changing us. Of course I'm freaked about the future."

"Ah, so it is you just putting a brave face on all th' time," Finn though aloud.

Kim
"Hey now, don't draw conclusions. Just because I'm freaked doesn't mean I'm not willing to face it." I cross my arms and smirk over at him with narrowed eyes. "Just like how you were brave enough to stay even when she left. Crick needed ya. And people need me. I'm not about to back down with that."

Finn blinked, not sure if he'd heard that right. "Wait, brave?...never 'eard that one b'fore."

Kim
I punch his shoulder lightly. "It's true. It's power to hold a gun but its bravery to fire it. Plenty brave, Finn. Just in your own way."

"Thanks..." Finn wasn't quite sure how to react to that. If there were one word to describe him, he would never expect brave. He punched her back. "And you're pretty brave yourself."

Kim
I laugh lightly. "Ah, i think Emily would argue that it's me being headstrong and not listening to common sense but thanks."

Finn shrugged. "Who needs common sense when you've got determination, any'ow?"

Kim
I smile and lean over to him slightly, whispering over, "Like the girly whose been listening in?"

Finn cocked an eyebrow. "What?"
