Max: I laughed. "Well, I don't think cats fetch..."

(interesting)

Dana: "No, they don't...hm."

(yupperness. With all the other crap they go through in between.)

Max: "Well, you could just pet the cat..."

(huhhhh)

Dana: "So we'd sit here and pet the cat. That's what you want to do?"

Max: I sighed. "I don't have any other ideas..."

Dana: "You don't like talking, unless we stay away from any real topics. You don't like animals, unless they don't bite and they fetch. And you like to play hide and seek, yet you're uncomfortable being in a room with another person." GRR. How was I supposed to come with ideas when he was so...restricted?

Max: I raised an eyebrow. "That's very true. But I have my reasons for being, well, strange."

Dana raised her eyebrows. "And what are they?"

(momo: just a sec)

Max: "That's a long story. Is there anything specific you want to know, or am I going to have to tell my life story?"

Ok spired

"It'd be hard to ask something specific if I don't know the general story," Dana said.

Max: "General story." I sighed. "I told you why I ran away, right?"

"It wasn't anything you said, it was everything you /didn't/ say. I tried to talk to you about whatever it was ... and you didn't even contribute to the conversation. It was like talking to a brick wall," Carly said all in a rush then took a deep breath and looked back down at the magazine, trying to reconstruct that air of uncaring, but it was hard to do.

"Um." Dana's eyes narrowed as she tried to think. "Something to do with your brother?"

Max: I nodded. "My brother wasn't the best of brothers. He was everything a brother shouldn't be."

Dana: "What did he do?"

Max: I sighed. I really didn't want to talk about it, but I might as well explain from the beginning a little. "Did I talk about my parents?"

Derek sighed and looked at the ground. What else could he say besides sorry? "If what we had was just a fling to me, I wouldn't be apologizing right now." he finally sighed to her.

Carly was quiet. She didn't like not winning an argument, but that was a good point. "Well, I guess that's true...."

"I don't think so," Dana said with a shake of her head.

Derek smiled over to her. "So it wasn't just a fling to me," he clarified, just to make sure his point came across.

Carly shrugged and looked up at him. "Okay?"

Max: "So I never talked about how my mother died?"

Dana's eyes widened a little. "No."
