Daughter of Darkness

James looked up with a hand over his eyes,"Well, besides backache, and extreme discomfort, no not that i can think of. I looked over at the girl in the corner, waiting for her input.

Tara opened her eyes and squinted. The light hurt, but it was bearable. The words caught in her throat and she accidently went invisible. After a few seconds she came back to herself. "I-I..." She could hardly speak. Not only the nervousness from the lights, and the people, but she was now afraid they would tell the guards about her use of her powers.

"I'm sorry, I could help heal those if you want." Penelope said to the boy, (James) she knew he wasn't very pleased with them here but she tried her best to hurry things along and get out so the boy and girl may have some peace.

Joesph looked at the girl (Tara) wide eyed for a moment. Shocked at what she did. Did she just...dissappear? He was quiet for a few moments, not saying a word. But he could see the fear in her eyes, she was probably scared that she used her powers...the guards here don't like it when you use their powers without their permission anyway. Joesph looked around, the door was shut, and the guards were waiting outside. He knelt down to the girl, almost reminding him of the times he would comfort Penelope when she was young. "You're alright, we won't tell anyone what happened. You're safe for now with us."

Tara looked up at him, relieved but confused. "Why are you helping?" she asked in a small voice, which she hadnt used in a long time.

Mirissa looked to Artemis, "Here I can see perfectly. Here in the dark I have the shadows, out there, "She glared at the door. "I'm helpless."

That was a good question, why was he helping her? He never really got asked that question before, and it wasn't like it was his obligation to help. But... She just seemed so helpless...
"Nobody should be down here. No you, not me, nobody." he said with a strong voice, not caring if the guards overheard. "This place was made so the s***heads above could have their perfect 'utopia.' Well, if that means not standing up for what's right then I think their 'utopia' is a h***hole."

((Umm I think Jake will visit you.))

Jake glared at the walls. Why did that stupid girl have to tell Mirissa it was him? He sighed, she only did what he should have done. He paused by the door he was spose to go in. He hated this part of the job, not that he enjoyed any parts. With another sigh he walked in.

Artemis furrowed her eyebrow "how peculiar" she sighed and fell silent

Mirissa smiled a little, "You now know basically everything about me. What about you?"

Artemis closed her eyes and bit back a grimace "there's not much to know"

Mirissa scooted closer with a soft smile, "There must be something. "

Artemis fingered her mark. It wrapped around her neck and made it's way up to her jaw line. She sighed and dropped her hand "It was too big to hide... I was too big to hide... My parents did try... but I was found" she replied, her voice small. "I think you can fill in the rest from there"

Tara was about to reply when a guard(Jake) walked in. She winced at the light coming in through the door.

James closed his eyes. It was a guard who walked in. "Great, what torture have you brought for us this time?" he asked the guard.

Jake shrugged, "Hey, I'm only here to see what's taking so long."

Mirissa felt herself soften, "You've never known anything different? "

Artemis shook her head, staring hard at her feet "no" she whispered "I'm a freak, it's 'what I deserve' "

Mirissa gave a dry laugh, "No, that's what they want you to believe." She stood and walked the room, running her hand along. The wall. "How many cells are there, for you know? Most of them holding people like us. How can you be a freak if there are ao many just like you?"

Artemis frowned, trying to take it all in "why do they lock us up?"

"Because," she said her eyed taking on a strange light. "They're afraid. We can see past the lies they give to the public. That they're socity is perfect. Some one who could see the future might see a.problem. someone who reads minds hear something they shouldn't and tell others. They place us here because they're afraid we'll bring their Utopia down by its roots." The shadows moves as if in agreement.

Artemis eyed the girl curiously "how do you know so much?"

Penelope gave a wryly smile at the guard. (Jake) "We were just finishing up. Sorry for taking so long."

Joesph glowered at the guard, he hated those b*******. They make his and everyone he loves life a miserable h***. He turned his head towards the girl, (Tara) she was wincing from the light. His anger got the best of him.
"We'll be done when we say we're done. Don't come in here and guilt us into hurrying the job you assigned us."

Jake shrugged again, ignoring the boy's(Joseph) tone. "I didn't choose the job, just spose to make sure ya do it."

Mirissa smiled grimly, "They aren't content to let the guards torture me. The head has to do it himself. I pick up a few things as he talks, a lot."

the head? yes, he had made an appearance to her cell a few times as well. Artemis shuddered at the memory "why the head?"

Penelope shook her head, knowing that these two boys (Jake and Joesph) were going to have a fight. "He didn't mean it like that--"

Joesph cut his sister off, too angry to even care if he sounded rude. "I was talking about all of you guards. You all think you're high and mighty for some reason. Well maybe you should be careful with who you're talking to."

Jake frowned, beginning to feel the hints of his temper. "Not all guards are as you described. "

Mirissa smiled sheepishly, "Im not good at controlling how the shadows react to my pain. They've killed to many guards to count. But for some reason they wont touch him."

Artemis stared at her. Crazy or not, maybe this girl could offer her some protection. that is if these shadows are real.
Her head snapped up as she felt the mind of one of her guards approach the cell. She grimaced, he was coming to take her back away.
the door slammed open and he shuffled in, ignoring her cries of pain as he grabbed her roughly "time to go back" he grinned, a hard glint in his eyes

Mirissa stood, forgetting the consequences of what she was about to do. "LEAVE, NOW." Her voice was commanding, deadly soft but full of force. It was echoed by the shadows as they crept up the man's arm and began squeezing.
