Wishing stars

Jaxon: "Good," I said. "I personally like jackets more though. Anyway, scarf first or sweater?" They both started with the letter s. Hm. Weird observation. It wasn't the type I usually made all the time.

Jean thought for a moment. "Scarves," she said with a nod. She bit her lip and looked up at him. "Do you want me to walk?" She really hoped he wasn't in any pain or anything because of her. She was skinny, really skinny in fact, but that didn't mean she wasn't still heavy.

Jaxon: I shrugged. "It's fine. Exercise builds muscles. I've been too lazy to get up and work out lately anyway, so this will count for today." I started walking towards the section where I thought they sold scarves.

Jean watched him, unable to take her eyes from his face. She just didn't understand it. How long had she known him? A day? Maybe two? And yet it was as if they had been friends forever and he was toting her around like it was no big deal. "Jaxon...why are you so good to me?"

Jaxon: I looked down at her. "Hm?" I shrugged. "I don't really have any other friends." Not since Cassy had dumped me. "You're the first person who's been nice to me in a really long time."

Jean looked at him and blinked a few times, her face a timeless mixture of confusion and disbelief. "Why wouldn't anyone be nice to you? You're amazing! How could they not be nice to you?" Anger flared up inside her for some reason and she felt like a second grader on the play ground, ready to beat up anyone who wasn't nice to Jaxon.

Jaxon: I shrugged. "I don't know. Life's been a little weird to me." I sighed, trying not to think about the malice in Cassy's eyes as she dumped me in front of half of the grade for no reason. Just then, I saw the scarves. "Hey, we're here."

Jean perked up slightly, having totally been oblivious to everyone around them until now. She saw people stare at her and she blushed a little, trying to hid behind Jaxon as best she could. She stared at the scarves and started to go through them, raising a brow. "I don't know which one I like," she murmered and frowned slightly. She didn't want anything flashy, but she didn't want something absolutely dull either. She found a pink rose colored scarf and brought it off the hook. It was soft, which was perfet for her head. She looked up at him and bit her lip. "Do you think they have a mirror around here?"

Jaxon: I looked around. "I'm sure there's one in the fitting room," I said. "It looks really nice." It really did. It fit her really well. "Are there any other ones you like?"

Jean blushed slightly and looked at the rack. She took a deep breath and pulled out a soft baby blue and a pale lavender color. Both of which were of a very soft cloth. She looked up at him and smiled. "These ones," she said with a small nod and looked around to see if she could find a mirror. "Do you see a mirror?" She asked, biting her lip.

Jaxon: "Those are nice too," I said. I saw a fitting room sign and pointed to it. "We could try looking over there. All fitting rooms have mirrors, right?"

Jean nodded and looked at him, giving a small smile. She bit her lip and climbed down out of his arms and instead used him as support as she walked over to the fitting rooms. He wasn't always going to be around to carry her after all. She took a deep breath and went into one of the fitting rooms with the three scarves. For a long moment she just stood there and stared at herself in the mirror. She was paler, skinnier maybe, and bald. She blinked back the tears and grabbed the pink scarf. After many failed attempts she finally figured out how to tie it and make it stay on her head. It didn't look to bad...perhaps... She walked out and looked at Jaxon and bit her lip again, waiting for his approval.

Jaxon: I nodded when Jean came back out. "The pink really looks good on you," I said. "Do you want to buy the blue and purple ones just in case you need backup?" You never knew with all the stupid kids these days; one of them might steal it from her or something.

Jean bit her lip and gave a small nod, going back into the dressing room and grabbing the scarves and walking back over to him. She shivered and automatically moved so she was burried into his side, stealing from his warmth. She couldn't deny how tired she felt either. It had been a long day. "Do I have to go to school tomorrow?" She asked randomly, not really wanting for anyone to know about her.

Jaxon: "Let's go buy those first and talk about that later," I said. "I think that's an issue between you and your parents. Talk to them about it. But you shouldn't have to go. You have other things to focus on right now, I'm sure."

Jean gave a small nod and shivered again. It was freezing in the store. "D-do you know where the jackets are?" she asked as she tried to not shiver again. She wondered if they had the A/C on high or something. "It's cold in here."

Jaxon: "We can go look," I said. "Want me to carry you again?" It really was a good workout to carry her. But that was good for me, I supposed.

"I can walk," Jean said, even though she really wanted him to carry her again. She kept herself tucked into his side to steal from his warmth. She walked with him to the jackets, then walked foreward when she saw one that was a bit lightly than most and was a zip up hoody. As she went towards it, she didn't notice as her list of things to do before she died fell out of her back pocket. She took the white and grey jacket off the hanger and slipped it on, almost immediately feeling considerably warmer. "I like this one."

Jaxon: I stepped to the side to start looking at more jackets and stepped on a piece of paper. I tapped Jean's shoulder, holding it out to her. "Hey, is this yours?"

Jean looked at it and frowned slightly. She took it from him and opened it up and sighed, her face falling. "Ya, it's mine," she murmered as her eyes fell on the items. 1.) Be in two places at once. 2.) See a waterfall. 3.) Get a tattoo. 4.) Find a cure for CLL. 5.) Have my first kiss. She stared at the list for what seemed like a life time before she folded it again and put it in her back pocket. "Thanks," she said and wrapped the jacket tighter around herself. "I think I like this one best."

Jaxon: I grinned. "Cool. So, are you ready to check out, or do you still want to take a moment to poke around and look at stuff?" Girls liked shopping, right? Usually?

Jean shook her head and smiled at him. She couldn't help it, his smile was so perfect it was contagious. She slipped her hand into his and noticed how warm he was and how big his hand was compared to hers. "I'm ready to check out," she still had the scarf and jacket on, but didn't really seem to care. They could ring it up while she was wearing it.

Jaxon: "Cool," I said. I laced our fingers together and started walking. "Let me know as soon as you feel any sort of weakness, okay? I don't want you to overdo yourself so soon after getting out of the hospital."

Jean looked at him and blushed but gave a small nod. She tried to fight back a small yawn, but failed miserably at it. "I don't want to go home," she stated as they reached the check out lane. She set the scarves on the conveyer belt along with a few bars of chocolate and the tags to the scarf on her head and the jacket she was wearing.

Jaxon: I squeezed her hand, turning to face her so I was really looking into her eyes. "Then let's not," I said. "We can sit in my car and talk if you want until you're ready. I don't want to go home either."
