Chrissa continued to run farther in the forest. When she felt that she was safe enough, she stopped to catch her breath in front of some bushes.

Kai: I heard heavy breathing really near me. I glanced over my shoulder and saw nothing. Tentatively, I poked my head out a little too see a girl (Chrissa) nearby.

Chrissa looked over to see some footprints in the ground. She bent over to inspect them carefully. They could belong to people like those who were chasing her.

Kai: I ventured back into my hiding spot as quickly as I could. I didn't want to be spotted.

Chrissa thought she heard something close by, but couldn't really determine where she'd heard the sound. Thinking for a moment, she then left the clearing and hid behind a tree to see if someone had followed her. She had a feeling she wasn't alone.

Kai: Breathing heavily, I continued to look around me. Still not feeling it was safe, I started searching for a water source, knowing I was going to get thirsty soon. I might have to climb something, though. I tumbled out of the bush on the other side and started climbing a tree.

Chrissa waited until she saw the guy starting to climb a tree. I knew there had to be someone close with those footprints. She slowly stepped out from her hiding place. "Hey!"

Kai: I almost fell out of the tree when I heard that voice. I slid down the tree trunk, facing the girl I'd seen earlier. "What?" I asked, putting one hand in my pocket in case I needed my knife.

Chrissa sized him up. SHe always forgot how short she was compared to other people. "Who are you?" she asked. "What are you doing out here?"

Kai: "Uh..." I glanced around me. Nobody. "I'm looking for water," I said. "That's all I'm gonna tell you. What abut you, huh?"

"Why should I tell you?" Chrissa replied. "Why should I trust you with what I'm doing out here?"

Kai: "I told you why I'm out here," I snapped. "If you want to know anything else about me, you better tell me something about yourself too."

Chrissa took in a deep breath, knowing he was right. WHat else could she do? "All right, you wanna know why I'm out here? I'll tell you. Surviving.".

Kai: I raised an eyebrow. Was she being honest? I was a little afraid to believe her. I clutched the knife more tightly as our gazes met. "Well, uh...yeah. Me too," I said lamely, wondering if she believed me either.

Chrissa stared at him, trying to determine whether or not to believe him. It could just be a trap set by those people who were chasing her.
