Angels and Demons

Mercutio: "Hey," I say as I put the clipboard down on the bed. "This is Rose, and Rose, thus is Anastasia. I-" I grimace. "-offered her protection."

Rose: "Hi Anastasia." I smiled politely. I'll yell at Mercutio when she leaves. He must've known this was dangerous when he had offered it. But that would come later, I didn't want to be rude.

Mercutio: I sigh and lean against the wall. Judging from the way Rose just blew off that last part, I'm getting a lecture after this. Add that to my plate of crap to do, and I may not make it back to the lab for a minute. My eyes narrow as I put a cigarette to my mouth. Looks like subject number 4220's prayers were answered. For now. "What are we gonna do about this last battle?" I ask. "We've lost too many people. Even if this was another tie, it'll take us a minute to build up more troops."

Rose: "I know. They really got us good." I used the button on the bed to raise me into a sitting position. That was much better. "But, since we destroyed that town, there's probably going to be some deaths AKA more recruitments. But we got them good too, so they have to recruit too."

Mercutio: I nod as I light my cigarette and take a long drag. "The fights are getting worse," I say. "This is the worst we've lost in a long time."

Rose: "You just said we didn't lose though. But you're right, we tied by a closer margin than before."

Mercutio: "I meant We lost a lot of people. People are getting more vicious with eachother, people only being "angels" or "demons in name now. It's like everyone is desperate for this to end, even the new soldiers." But what would we do if not fight?

Rose: "Yeah. They are getting pretty vicious." I said, thinking of the demon who put me here in the first place. I shuddered at the thought. "I think we should try and work out a peace treaty or something." I said finally.

Mercutio: "A peace treaty..." I repeat. "Do you think so? No one even remembers why we're fighting now, there's no big agenda on either side. Just a lot of hatred, which can't be fixed with just a treaty."

Rose: "It's getting out of hand, and we should be protecting the people, not killing them for recruits." Dammit, that just totally contradicted what I was going to say later to Mercutio. And he'll totally use that against me.

Mercutio: I raise an eyebrow. Something to remember for later. "The demons can't do their jobs either, guessing from what some of my patients have said. With the two of us not doing what we're suppose to, the world has gradually been coming undone. Perhaps it's all for the best then?"

Rose: "Yeah, exactly. Demons aren't supposed to be hacking people apart, they're usually pranksters. It's ridiculously out of hand, and it needs to stop before our fighting turns into Armageddon."

Anastasia - "It wasn't always this violent?" I wonder.

Mercutio: "Not in the beginning. After The Great War happened and we came to replace real angels, we fought just because it was what we were told to do. And now we've become good at it, we've come to love it and become attuned to it as though bloodlust were the basis of our existence. And who knows. Maybe for some, this is really the case. Once God took his rest after the Great War, heaven as certainly become more linient with who it accepts." Me not being the exception.

Anastasia - I sigh, sitting down on the floor, "Maybe that's a good thing, the more lenient part, some people deserve second chances."

Mercutio: "But not everyone." I stub out my cigarette once I realized it's turn to ashes and make my way to the door. "Nice to see that everyone's alright though. If you'll excuse me, I have some further things to attend to."

Rose: I knew a little bit about Mercutio, but not much. I know what he does when he's alone, and I'll admit, it's pretty weird. But she was right, some people deserved second chances. I watched him walk out.

Anastasia - "Did I insult him?" I wonder watching him go.

Rose: "Nah. He wants to go play with-" I cut off, not wanting to scare her.

Anastasia - I sensed her hesitation, "He wants to go play with what?"

Rose: I smiled. "Don't worry about it. It's nothing."

Anastasia - I don't believe her but nod anyway.

Rose: I smiled, and winked.

Anastasia - "Why did you protect me?" I ask her.

Niccoleta: "Do you think we should just end this?" I ask my servant suddenly. He jumps up at the sound of my voice after being quiet for so long. He jumps and looks at me. "Lady Niccoleta?" "This war?" I ask. I turn my head to look out the pretty spring day. "You heard me and you damn well know what I mean." He frowns a bit. "But Lady Niccoleta, we've been fighting for so long. What do you mean we should just end it?" I take one last look before turning back around, a grin on my face. "Haha, I'm just fuckin with ya. Wanted to see if you had any balls. Have the others come back yet?"
