C. D. - character development

"Here," said Evan. "Have the granola bar."

Penny: "Thanks," I said and nibbled a bit off it.

Skipper draws a short curved blade and spins it, before handing it hilt-first to Dan. "Don't cut yourself."

Penny: I continued eating.

"You like?" asks Skip.

Penny: "You're talking to Dan, right?"

"No. I'm talking to you," explains Skipper. "So which is better? H-Pac or granola bars?"

Penny: I shrugged. "Um, they're both good."

"Fair dinkum," replies Skipper. "Mind if I try a bit of the granola bar?"

Penny: "Sure," I said and handed some to him.

((Skipper's a girl. And you can't exactly miss it, either ))

"Ta." Skipper sniffs it suspiciously, then opens her mouth and takes the slightest little nibble from one corner. She sits motionless for a second, then takes a slightly larger bite, and chews it for a moment. She stuffs the rest of the piece into her mouth. "That's pretty good stuff!"

Penny: I nodded. "Yeah. So was yours."

((Don't worry. I understand what you're saying anyway))

"Yeah... it's a shame they can't synthesise a nutrition block that tastes a bit more... real, though."

(haha. *pokes self: SKIPPER IS A GIRL!)

Penny: I frowned. "What do you mean?"

"It tastes weird," explains Skipper. "It's not nasty, but it doesn't taste of anything real, like ort-meat, or water, or something like that."

Penny: I shrugged. "It tastes alright."

"Yeah. It's not bad . It's just... Weird."

Penny: I laughed. "Sometimes weird is good."

"Yeah," replies Skipper. "Like you humans. You're weird, but quite cool."

Penny: I laughed. "I think we're all weird in our own ways."

"Mhm. I'll second that."

Penny: I grinned. "Yeah. I guess it's true."

"It's amazing what's true, when you think about it," muses Skipper.

Penny: "Yeah. People don't stop to just think anymore."

"I hate that!" cries Skipper, jumping up suddenly. "No one notices beauty any more. They just see concrete and steel. I expect you see this behaviour as well, but it's not limited to humans. Every sentient being in the galaxy gets bored eventually, not realising that they live in a perpetual wonderland. hey, I'm guilty of it myself."
