C. D. - character development

Penny: I shook my head. "Tell me about them."

"I don't know what they ment by it but I can hazard a guess it was Dan's translation," laughed Cassie. "The Roman's were an ancient civilization much like the Greeks. They invented many things we use to day like indoor plumming."

"Okayyy... The Greeks. I get you now..." Skipper's raptor eyes shift nervously. "The Ya'netti are a rare group of Nuska, more yellow in colour than I am, and for hundreds of years they were feared and reviled as monsters and cannibals. A few hundred years ago, however, they came out of the shadows and demanded equality under galactic law. It turns out that they only reason they're at all different is because of their history of oppression."

Penny: "So...are they around here now?" I asked, looking around. "And what happened to them? I mean, why were they oppressed?"

Dan:
"The Romans are in no way similar to the Greeks" I say, "They share the same gods but with different names and the Roman aspects are much more war like. Romans and Greeks are different because Romans were way more powerful than Greeks, Romans had numbers and Legion training while Greeks usually fought as small groups or in single combat, with the eception of the Spartans. Greeks were usually thought of as more gay than the Romans as well, the Greeks apparently usually men would sexually abuse woung boys, because they believed women were inferior and no one could love them like a man could. Which seems a little wierd to me. and one more thing, the Romans were way more beast!"

Penny: I frowned. "Um...yeah, I tried not to pay attention during school when we were learning about them."

"They sound a bit creepy to me," replies Skipper. "Although we did engage in three hundred galactic standard years of holy war simply because another species had the wrong number of limbs. They coincidentally matched our description of Efteh, the River of Rancid wine. I realise that that probably sounds ridiculous to you, but the connotations of Efteh are pretty horrific."

Penny: My head was spinning by now. "That's a lot of names for me to remember."

Dan:
A little nervous about only having two arms now I asked, "How many arms did they have?"

"None. Just a collection of pseudopods at the tip of their tails. You don't need to remember the names, it doesn't matter."

"Their are many people through out history who have persicuted those who were diffrent..." said Cassie sadly.

Dan:
"Yup, the Romans persecuted the Jews, the Nazis persecuted the Jews too, well, the Jewish people have had it rough" I say. "Also I'm kinda glad that I'm not gonna be problem having two arms"

Dan:
"Well thats what happens now" I tell Cassie, "Well, except for the KKK, the NeoNazis, and a few other orginizations, man, our world is seriously f****d up!"

"Hey, no species is perfect. or race, for that matter. We've all got our dark secrets. And Penny, the reason the Ya'netti were persecuted was because they were different. No other reason I know of."

Dan:
"From what I have seen, humans are the worst species out there, to each other I mean. The Varadinae at least don't eat eachother just humans, the Senetaurs have some ideals, if you defeat one of them in combat their race will leave your world as it is and not return"

"People tend to point fingers just to get rid of people too...hence the salem witch trials." said Cassie.

Dan:
"Also from what I have seen every religion has differences and those differences can cause wars. The Crusades, and all the conflict in the Middle East"

Penny: I frowned. "We do that a lot. We persecute people for being different."

"You think you have it bad..." murmurs Skipper. "We've got possibly the worst track record in the galaxy for bigotry and holy wars."

Penny: "Well, I wasn't saying that...but yeah, I'll bet it wasn't any better here."

"It's pretty dreadful, but all species are rubbish at something. You humans are technologically about at the same level as starfish. Zaxiphrasians are fiercely xenophobic, and extremely warlike. We have a habit of letting our bigotry get in the way of our decisions."

Penny: I raised an eyebrow. "Bigotry. That's an interesting word."

"It's a very interesting word. And painfully accurate to describe the Nuska."

Penny: I sighed. "I don't like the word, but I know what it means."
