"We always know what's going on," replies Skipper. "it's my job."

While everyone was walking on to the next exibit, Evan pulled Skipper asided. "Ok. What really happened? Explain." said Evan quietly so no one else could hear.

"What? Just then? I told the truth, you know."

"I don't want the simple answer, I want the long one," Evan sighed. "What did you see?"

"I saw the miner again. The first real person I ever killed. he was lying on the ground, begging for death and trying to shovel his organs back inside him. It wasn't working. I..." Skipper's voice shakes. "I... I tried to help him. But on the VR I'd seen heroes kill bad guys by breaking their neck, so I thought that would be the quickest way to kill him." Skipper starts to rock backwards and forwards, and her voice rises and speeds up. "I managed it but, but, but, he didn't die! He just started making this horrible gurgling and, and, and I had to find something sharp to kill him with. So I cut his throat with the nearest sharp object... And it was..." Skipper hides her face. "It was one of his ribs. By the time I'd managed to slit his throat he was already dead. We'd both spoiled ourselves."
Skipper freezes altogether.

"That's horrible...it's not your fault...you were just trying to help. He begged for death. You put him out of his misery. "

"I made it..." Skipper sobs wretchedly. "Worse! He would have died anyway, but it would have hurt him less without me."

Dan:
"That is terrible" I tell Skipper, "and a little gross, excuse me one second" I turn and hurl on the floor, "You were saying?"

"Were you easedropping?! Never mind." said Evan. "Skipper, I know he knew you were trying to help. If you hadn't helped hime it would have taken him longer to die and in excrucinating agony. You made it faster for him. You did not make it worse...worse would have been to leave him there."

Dan:
"Oh yeah, killing is terrible I hated when I did it" I said matter of factly wiping vomit from my face, I see the guards glaring at me, "I'll clean it up!" I say and binarize the mess.

"Maybe you're right," sighs Skipper, her chest heaving. "But it was still horrible."

"It was and you may feel guilty...but it's not your fault. Did you leave him like that like whoever left him in that state? No. You tried to help and I'm sure the mier was greatful. He knew he would die and you couldn't have saved him. You wanted to make it less painful for him...if you had left him there it would have probably been more painful," said Evan.

"Thanks," sighs Skip, hugging Evan. She sniffs loudly.

"You're welcome," said Evan, who was patting Skippers back ackwardly...he really wasn't good at this kinda thing.

Skipper lets Evan go, and straightens up again. "Has anything like that ever happened to you?"

"No...but I feel that me telling Cassie about my abuse has done more harm than good...I see the way she looks at me...like I'm going to break...when I'm more afraid her keeping my secret will cause her to break." said Evan sadly.

"What do you do to make it easier for her?"

"I don't know what I've done...she's always sooo happy. I encourage her to do things...she's shy and she prefers to keep to her self...I got her to try out for the musical though and she got the lead." Evan grinned.

Skipper nods, impressed. "That's good. I've never been much of an actor."

"She can sing...I found out because I sneaked up on her while she was...she probably never would have told me," Evan gave a small smile at the thought.

"That's cute," says Skipper, cocking her head and smiling. "You make a good pair."

"Thanks. I think so too..."said Evan. "She foundout my secret because I had invited her to my house...but my dad was home and I was afraid of what he might do...I shut the door in her face...she found me in the park, sleeping on a bench. She let me sleep in her tree house, demanded an answer, and I told her."

"That's so cute!" cries Skipper. "At least you're together now."

"Yeah," Evan smiled.

"Not everyone is so lucky," murmurs Skipper.
