Yet Another Victorian Chat!

The man pulls his hat further down over his eyes. "Its the truth," he says. "I'm not the one you need to worry about. But I'll tell you this much-" I look down at the girl. "Try to dirty yourself a bit more. And make them think you're very weak."

Chance looked at the book uncaringly. He didn't have much interest in books. It might have been because he'd never learned to read. "That's a strange thing to keep secret," he commented. "That you left early. She's bound to find out anyway, so what's the use of that?" He had a feeling that she was covering up something, but he decided not to pry.

Ella's eyes flitted up to him. "Who's...them?"

Lucien: "Because she took me with her for a reason. I probably should've remembered, but I suppose that's what happens when you're always avoiding a calender," I say. I look down at the flask in my purse and offer it. "You drink?"

"You'll see," says the man. He takes out a mask from a hidden compartment in the carriage and puts it too his face. "All in good time."

Chance glanced at the flask. "Not much." After seeing what alchohol did to his uncle, suddenly whiskey and wine didn't taste as good.

Ella frowned. He wasn't kidding. No turning back now. "What should I expect?" She asked tentatively, not entirely sure if she even wanted an anwser.

Lucien: I shrug and take a sip. "Thanks for taking me back though," I say as we finally get outside. I take a deep breath of the cigar and rain scented air. Oh, London. "What do they call you?"

"Chance, mostly," he said.

"Expect chaos," the man says frankly. "I hope you've eaten well, because worst case senerio you won't be eating much for awhile. If you're lucky, you'll be allowed to stay for the party or else leave. But try as you might, you'll never be able to tell anyone about what you're about to see."

Lucien: "Chance? Hmm. I like it." I take his hand and shake it. "Call me Lucien. Not Lucy, not LuLu. Lu-shen."

Brb, dinner.

Ella was suddenly aware of her empty stomach. Thanks for that. "Party?"

Chance flashed a boyish smile. "I think I've got it, thanks."

Lucien: I drop his hand and put a hand on my hip. "Good," I say with a nod. "We're understood. Maybe you and I will get along better than I thought." Damn it, that doesn't help me out much though. Guess I'll have to go with plan B.

The man nods. "Although I can garuntee you it'll be like nothing you've ever seen." He knocks on the window seperating him from the driver. "Would you mind stopping at a bakery for a moment?"

Chance smirked and looked ahead. "So, where're we headed?"

Ella lost all other thoughts. Food. Bakery meant food.

Lucien: "It should only be a few blocks now," I say. "You'll be able to recognize it easily. It's the "modest" version of the generic noble's manor. And the garden's immense."

The man nods at the girl. "What do you want exactly? Make sure you pick something that'll fill you up."

A million pastries ran through Ella's head, and her eyes lit up just a little. "Cake? Or pie. Or..." she thought between the two before nodding, "Pie."

Chance nodded. Modest? The basement of any of those houses was five times what he'd called his house.

The man nods towards the driver. "Both," he says. "Three kinds of each." He sighed as the driver nodded and went to fill his order. The more the man talked to the girl, the more she reminded him of his neice. She was the reason she was doing all of this.

Lucien: "Ah, there it is," I say with a nod towards the old fashioned stone and brick mansion. I turn towards the guy suddenly. "Wanna make some quick money?"

Ella gawked. Three?

Chance eyed her suspiciously. "What do you have in mind?"

Lucien: "Nothing much," I say. "Just escort me to a party of sorts. You wouldn't mind too much, would you? After all, it's a very... Eccentric party. But you'll be paid handsomely."

The driver comes back with several bags and hands them to the man before getting back in his seat and taking the reigns. "Chocolate, strawberry, or blackberry?"

"Chocolate," Ella said quickly.

Chance cocked his head. It sounded sketchy somehow. "Why does it sound like there's something you're not telling me?"

Lucien: I smirk. "Paranoia," I say frankly. "Now do you want to go or not? You could always go back to your master."

The man hands her the cake before closing his eyes and rubbing his temple. Damn, if only there was some way put of this. But he didn't have anything else that they'd want and he needed to get in. For Poppy.
