Brawne sighed, "Well then, tell you what. How 'bout you say word for word what you'd like to hear. I'll repeat it back like a good 'ol school boy who loves his mum, then we can both go on our merry way, each carrying on with his puny insignificant life, yeah?"

The Warden stood and walked calmly around his desk, his footsteps clicking slowly until he was looking down at the boy in the chair. He yanked him up by his hair so he had to stand and look at him. "I have seen your kind before. You're young enough to be a suicide robber, sent her blind by whoever you are working for who could take use of such documents that you've been rummaging through. You, on your own, would have no use of such documents. I can tell by your complexion that you're off the streets, and I doubt you can read at all. I am no fool, lad. I'll give you one more chance, and perhaps if you set your path straight then I'll let you go for now. Who are you working for?" He let go and threw the kid to the ground.

Brawne brushed himself off "I can read." he mumbled moodily, not bothering to disprove any of the Wardens other assumptions.

Crooks winced when he heard the gunfire. So the kid didn't make it. Shame. Still, he could make use of those documents...he was about to find a descreet entrance when something caught his eye. Or rather, something didn't. There had been guns fired, but when he looked through the window...there was no blood. There were only a few men hanging around the should-be murder scene. No scrawny blonde boy to be seen. Crooks, now curious more than anything, crept to the side of the building and slipped through a window. There was a familiar voice. He darted to the closed door before a policeman caught him, not sure if the men had been informed of the free-lance agreement between him and the warden.

The Warden cocked his head. Was he lying to spare some pride? But before he could say anything else, someone familiar burst in, wearing a grin. "Before you do anything rash, sir, remember our deal. I'll be taking th' boy now."

Brawne jumped up, sweeping the feet out from under the Warden. He swept his hand up through his short blond hair, plastering spikes up with sweat. Crooks stood before him, tall and lanky. A mixture of gratitude and anger poured from Brawne at Crook's sudden appearance. "Now friend," Brawne says grinning peevishly "you've given it away."

Crooks only glanced knowingly at Brawne before turning back to the Warden, who somehow even looked dignified after being knocked to the ground. He stood, meeting Crooks' stare. "Ah, you've taken him in." He looked to Brawne, a slight sense of emotion in his eyes for once. It was only a warning sort of pity, but nonetheless. "You don't know who you're working for, lad. He'll kill you. Throw you away when he gets bored playing games."

Crooks stepped forward, nudging Brawne behind him. "See 'ere, Warden, I take care of my troops. It's not up t' you to judge my training style. He'd best learn now than when it's too late how t' take care of himself."

Brawne's eyebrows came together in confusion. "I can take care of myself." He grumbled more for his own benefit than for anyone elses. His confidence took a blow when he looked down on himself and saw sooty skin, tattered clothing, and shoes that were falling apart at the seems. I've survived this long, he thought to himself. That had to be worth something, whats doing it for a little longer?

Warden shook his head, giving the boy one last glance. "He's lying," he said, but stepped back behind his desk. "Go." If the theif wanted to toy with peoples' lives and the boy wanted to hand his own to him, fine. He would learn. "Well, go. Take your prize."

Ami
I shift under the blanket, wincing slightly. "They made me omnilingual. So i could warn whoever before i killed them."

Cricket shifted slightly. Ah, good English. Though he wasn't sure if he even wanted to hear that last part.

Ami
I study my hands. Cricket's not moving. "Don't like what you hear?"

Cricket smirked. "I thought Sarah was th' mind reader," he said, and then remembered that he was supposed to be asleep. Ah, well. Finn suddenly piped up, "Just out of curiousity," and then whistled 'Can you understand this?" It was a language, even if scarcely known.

Ami
I nod. "It's similar to a language in Africa. Whistles and clicks, simple but hard to understand and learn."

Cricket nodded. It could get pretty confusing, even for him sometimes. "There's no dictionary, either." Though he was slightly dissapointed that someone outside the Lowlands knew it. That sort of ruined the point.

Ami
I smile. "Don't worry. It's not exactly same."
