Just Plain Bad (Character Development, but with a twist)

Aaron: I frowned. Finally, I said, "I like your spines."

"Thank you," replies Desiderata. "And...?"

((Basically, the most people have their own internal voices, and the easiest way to understand Desiderata is if you know that the loudest of her internal voices is basically just screaming "ME! ME! ME!"))

Aaron: "It makes you look beautiful."

"Thank you," replies Desiderata, a slight smile shaping her ruby-red lips. "Now, try to think of a question you think I wouldn't want to answer. Got one?"

Aaron: "Sure. I don't know. Let me see. Why are you a criminal?"

"Good question. Now, any girl isn't just going to answer a question like that straight off. Use flattery to get your answer."

Aaron: I smirked. "Fine. You must be so smart. I bet you could have gone to a good school. Why did you choose to be a criminal instead?"

"Good question. I'm not exactly a criminal, anyway. I do adhere to my duty to the Consulate... generally. But unlike my lover, that poor fool Es-Ka Justick, I didn't become a Noronel to serve the galaxy first. I became one to serve me first, and perhaps the galaxy as well. It's just so much easier than being bound by the law."

Aaron: I laughed. "Yes. It's nice to not be bound by anything." I sighed, thinking back to my family. Stupid parents.

"What would you know of that?" asks Desiderata, half angry, half condescending.

Aaron: I frowned. "Parents. I was a kid once."

"Ah..." Desiderata stares into the middle distance for a moment. "I was once, too."

Aaron: "Exactly. Too many restrictions. I'm definitely not a family man."

"Hmm. I can sympathise with that. I sent my three children away to a private school in the next arm of the galaxy."

Aaron: "Private school." I sighed. "Public school was awful."

"Come to think of it, my childhood was rather similar."

Aaron: "So we may be alike after all."

"Hmm. I never would have thought so."

Aaron: "And why not?"

"Oh, no reason," replies Desiderata, apparently only noticing her luxurious surroundings for the first time.

Aaron: I smirked. "Alright. Keep telling yourself that."

"Oh yeah?" replies Desiderata. "Pardon me, but I don't see you buying towers in the city."

Aaron: I shrugged. "I'm comfortable living in hotels, thanks."

"Hmm." Desiderata is slightly taken aback. "I would expect that I own some of those hotels."

Aaron: "Do you? Which ones?"
