Daughter of Darkness

Mirissa wrinkled her nose, eyeing the empty plate and letting out a sigh. "Can you teach me how to cook?"

Jack chuckled and nodded. "Yes, I can teach you how to cook."

The sounds of his fading voice gabrielle to life a little, worry filling her "where are you going? "

"No, where. It's just hard to keep the connection." Peter said, his voice faint, broken. His mind splintered a bit more, but he clung to her mind still, not wanting to leave her.

Artemis stirred waking. Whoa, she fell asleep? Whoops. She didn't move, letting Kale get his rest

"Because....I'm scared...." Peter said as he still held to her. "Death...is an awefully big adventure..."

Kale stirred slightly, burrying his face in her chest a little, his hold on her tightening slightly. His eyes gradually found their way open and he blinked blearily, but he was only partially awake.

Gabrielle scoffed "I've faced worse. death is comforting. life is cruel"

Artemis yawned and continued to run her fingers through his hair

"......yes Gabrielle........I love you....." The connection slipped from Peter and he fell into a dead, comatoic state, his mind shattered in pieces. His heart beat was slow, uncomfortable lurches and his breathing shallow.

Kale yawned. "Morning." He murmered.

His words startled Gabrielle, she felt him slip away and she frowned, prodding his mind "peter?"

"Morning" Artemis chirped "sleep well?"

"Mhm." Kale murmered, not opening his eyes. He was to happy and to comfortable where he was.

Small pieces of Peter answered, trying to grasp at her. But there wasn't enough to form a coherent thought, just the echos of his last thought.

He was gone? Unbeknownst to Gabrielle's waking mind, she was only staying around because of him. She quickly retreated away, falling into the same state as him

Artemis smiled and held up her book, proud to show she was nearing the middle "look!"

Mirissa grinned and gave tlhim a hug. "Thanks Jack."

Kale chuckled and nodded. "I knew you could do it." He said with a smile. He streached and then went back to his position of holding her, with his head against her chest, listening to the comforting sound of her heart beat. "How are our guests?" He aske quietly.

Jack chuckled and hugged her, kissing her forehead. "Anytime. Although, I think I'll take a shower before we do any cooking, I'm sort of in need of one."

Artemis felt out with her mind and quickly retreated, the filling of their empty shelled bodies bringing tears to her eyes.
"they've.. they've...." lost for words, she showed him what she felt. "are they gunna die?" she squeaked

Mirissa frowned, "Fine." She muttered and stepped back from him.

Jack couldn't help laughing at her expression and cupped her cheeks, kissing her deeply. "I'll be quick." He said and then walked from the kitchen and to the bathroom.

Kale frowned, not liking the feeling. He glanced at Artemis and shook his head. "Not if I can help it." He muttered and slid her off of his lap and onto the couch next to him. He walked into the kitchen and looked at Mirissa. "We need your help. They've both turned dead-ish."

Artemis followed him in, her eyes slightly distant as their comotas state rubbed off on her, her mind embracing the familiar feeling.

Kale noticed the distance in her eyes and wrapped his arm around her, kissing her temple gently, hoping it would bring her back to him.

Peter reached out, trying to grab whatever connection he could. He finally found one, that girl he had talked to earlier.

Artemis looked at him and blinked, slowly coming around. Slowly

Kale watched her for a moment, waiting a little impatiently. He wanted her back, he didn't want her to fade. He needed her with him. Without really thinking he gently touched his lips to the corner of her mouth in a gentle kiss.

Artemis blink again, confused. She met his gaze and shook her head, trying to get ride of the darkness threatening her 'hey" she whispered

Kale pulled away and looked at her, his eyes holding a slight desperateness to them, begging her to stay and not fade. "yes?"

"...was I.. like her when we.. ran?" Artemis gulped, trying to understand all that's happened to them

Kale watched her and his eyes turned sad and he gave a small nod. "Yes. Before that even..."

Tears pricked her eyes, the emptiness becoming replaced by pure agony "why us?" she croaked "what have we ever done to them?"
