C. D. - character development

Penny: "Hey! Nice to have more company!"

Dan:
I sit next to Penny and say, "Oh nothing much, just a little grumpy at being left out" I cross my arms and pout.

"Sorry." Skipper performs another one of her bizarre shrugs. "Didn't realise you wanted to come."

Penny: I laughed. "Forget that and look outside! Isn't it beautiful?"

"Want to go closer?" asks Skip.

Penny: "Yeah!"

Dan:
"Closer to where?" I ask, "And can we visit your homeworld from waht you told us it seems very interesting"

The craft floats to about halfway between where they were and the Nebula. "I can't go too much closer," she warns.

Penny: "Oh my goodness! It's amazing!" I whispered.

"Perhaps," Skipper waggles her eyebrows. "But not yet."

Penny: "Ooh, that would be so fun!"

Skipper rolls her eyes "Okayyy. Fine!"
She hammers in a new set of coordinates, and watches as the Alhaldeh Nebula smears into something else.

Penny: "Whoa!" I exclaimed as things shifted.

The craft descends through a brick-red atmosphere and lands on the purple grass. In the sky, the sun is large and very orange. Most of the plant-life is purplish in colour.
"Here we are," announces Skipper. "Like it?"

Penny: "It's...breath-taking," I murmured. "Beautiful."

"Yeah, you could call it that, I suppose."
Skipper looks thoughtful.
"The cities are pretty nice as well."

Penny: "Do we get to see those?"

"Sure. We're approaching the capital city of Nuskatha. Whatever you do, don't get Nuska and Hoort confused. It could cost you a serious beating."
Skipper pilots manually, and coasts over the purple savannah at a height of about thirty metres.

Penny: "As long as you guide us around, I guess we'll be fine..."

Skipper opens a radio channel and speaks in a sharp, guttural speech full of clicks and grunts, among other, more human sounds.
"We're cleared for landing at the southern entrance," explains Skipper. "But nowhere else. There's been an... incident, apparently."

Penny: "What do you mean?"

"I'm not sure. I don't think it concerns us too much though. Luckily our atmosphere is about the same as yours, but with slightly less oxygen and slightly more nitrogen. It should be like being at high altitude," Skipper sets the craft down on the landing platform, and lowers the ramp.
"And you breathe arsenic, right?" She turns to face them and cracks a smile "I almost had you there! I don't know of many species that breathe arsenic, but mine isn't one."

Penny: I let out a weak laugh. "Whoa. You scared me there for a second."

Skipper gives a deep-throated chuckle. "Yeah. I like jokes like that. Sorry."
She stands, and shuts down the instruments, plucking a small and unobtrusive crystal from the central console.
"Can't risk anyone stealing my ship while we're gone. Right! Follow me!"
She almost skips down the ramp.

Penny: I managed a thin smile and followed Skippy as she skipped down the ramp.
