Daughter of Darkness

"I've always admired your optimism." Peter said sarcastically. "So what? You're just going to lay here like a lump and stink up the room? Or are you going to wake up?"

Jack rubbed Mirissa's back gently, being the whipped sucker he was, he had sat down on the bed beside her.

Gabrielle scoffed "am not a lump!" she bristled at his words, stirring slightly

"Oh ya?" Peter smirked slightly as he watched her. "Then prove it."

Gabrielle scowled and came too a little more, reluctant to leave the safety of her mind "I don't have to prove anything to you" she quipped

"So you are a lump then?" Peter said, his voice light and teasing.

Gabrielle pulled herself all the way out, her eyes flying open "am not!"

Mirissa leaned backwards into his hand as she slept. Just this little touch from him comforting her.

Peter gave her a split lip smile as he watched her and chuckled, the corner of his eye pulling down slightly from a large gash that streached from his eyebrow down.

Jack laid down with her and held her close.

Gabrielle gasped as she saw his body. it looked like hell. "why haven't you had yourself heal?" she snapped, forcing her way into his mind "heal" she demanded

Peter gave a small smile, letting her heal him. "I did...a litlle." He chuckled, his body slowly begining it's healing. "I couldn't even move earlier, and my concious was shattered worse than glass..."

Gabrielle fell silent, her eyes landing on the window.
A window.
She slipped out of bed, her feet bringing her forward as she stared out it in awe, "we're free?"

Peter stood and walked over to stand beside her, keeping a distance between them so she didn't feel scared, or cringe away. "Yes Gabrielle...we're free." He let the memories of him taking her from Seph, and running as far as he could, and passing out after asking the boy to take care of Gabrielle, run through her mind. "I told you I'd get you out.."

Gabrielle turned to him, her eyes going cold "he's going to find us. he's going to take me back"

Peter stared at her and shook his head. "I won't let him take you, Gabrielle. I will die first."

"No" Gabrielle stated, her eyes flashing and her voice distant "he will kill me first... you're future is then in your hands"

Peter shook his head. "I won't let him do that Gabrielle." His eyes filling with pain again.

"you don't have a say. it's fate" she tore her gaze from the window and search his face

"There is no such thing as fate." Peter growled, refusing to believe it. His eyes were filled with pain, clutching desperately for something that would prove his point. "You said we'd never escape. Yet here we are. The future can change, Gabrielle. It can. And I will not let him touch you ever again."

Gabrielle sighed, not in the mood to explain the concept of foresight "the paths may be different, but the end result stays the same. Don't love me" she begged, "it is a bad idea"

Peter shook his head. "I will change it." He said determinedly. "I will change it and I will never stop loving you."

Gabrielle looked away her eyes turning stony as she stared out the window "then you will die"

Artemis gave a shaky sigh and looked up at Kale "do you, do you love?" she squeaked

"I'll take that chance." Peter said as he watched her closely.

Kale looked down at her slightly confused. "Do I love?..yes. I love."

Artemis nodded thoughtfully "do you love me?"

Kale looked down at her and nodded. "Yes, yes I do love you." He didn't know what she was getting at, but it made him curious. He thought she was still talking in way of friends, his heart aching knowing he loved her so much more than that.

Artemis nodded, not saying anything further. Someone once told her the whole point of living was to be loved. She wasn't sure there was a point to it all after seeing that girl.. but if Kale loved her, there had to be, somehow, somewhere, a reason for her to live
