Back to December Deviation

Kale came back out with a few more boxes, whistling lightly as he put the items on the shelves. His eye landed on a heart shaped locket and he wondered what was on the inside. He popped it open and grinned as he read the tiny, cheesy inscription then went back to putting things on the shelf. Despite himself, he wondered when Meredith's birthday was as he eyed the locket. He then decided to just sit back and chill, letting her make the next move.

Meredith drummed her fingers lightly on the counter, staring at the clock that was on the back wall of the store, behind the counter. It seemed to hardly move every time she looked. Usually, Meredith loved being at her job. But today she had somewhere to be, so she was impatient to get done.

The day seemed to pass slowly as Kale assigned himself the male members of the customers that came into the shop, trying his hardest to not look sexist as he avoided any other potential flirters. He had about all that he could handle that morning, and if he had heard one more person say "fantazy," he would have had to hang himself. By the time closing time came around, he sighed with relief. He went about his chores of cleaning up the shop and went to clock out, looking rather haggard for saying he had only stalked shelves.

Meredith watched him, an amused smirk on her face. But she didn't say a word, grabbing her jacket from behind the counter where she'd left it, and locking the cash register. She grabbed another key ring and went to the back of the shop, through the storage area, to the back door. After locking that, she returned to the counter, waiting for Kale to finish up so she could lock the main entrance.

Kale finished and grabbed his things, then walked with Meredith to the door. "So, how'd I do for my first day?" He asked with a small grin. He ruffled his already messy hair and watched her quietly.
