Daughter of Darkness

Mirissa shook her head. "When I was five..." she hesitated, they would think she as crazy.

Penelope sighed. "I always tell him that, Artemis, but he tends not to listen." She gave a soft laugh to lighten up the atmosphere. "Anyway in case you haven't know already...my name's Penelope, and this is Joesph."

Joesph shook his head, he didn't want to just believe that they were all just cursed. Penelope couldn't just be cursed. They had to be something..."I apologize." He then turned to Mirissia. "What happened when you were five?"

Artemis nodded, to the penelope then scooted to the other girl, eager to hear more "so for a few years you got to be normal?! w-o-w" she sighed blissfully "what that must have been like.."

"One night I was sitting in the dark, scared half to realty of a storm outside. The shadows in my room seemed to gather around me into a tall figure. It knelt by my bed and told me everything was fine. That the storm didn't dare touch his daughter. He ran a hand across my forehead and touched the lids of my eyes before he just disappeared. The next morning I had the mark, and..." she couldn't bring herself to say the word. blind

Artemis frowned, trying to wrap her head around the girls tale. Maybe she had just cracked like the others? suppose that would make more sense.
"that sure must have been.. hard to adjust to."

Mirissa smirked, "I didn't get a chance. My mark couldn't be hidden and....blindness...is pretty hard to hide too." She stumbled over the word but.managed to force it through her lips.

Penelope was shocked, she didn't knew that this girl was once a normal girl. She felt sad for her, to have once bliss and then lost is far more worse than living with no bliss at all. "I'm so sorry for that."

Meanwhile, Joesph was surprised. He had never met anyone with the mark who said that. That must've meant something. "The shadow said the storm wouldn't dare touch his daughter?" Where have I heard that from? I know it was never said to me, but somewhere else, like in a book or something...

Artemis nodded, falling silent. She was never given a chance to be normal. her parents had tried to hide her, but still.. she was found.. what she would have given for a chance to be normal for five years

Mirissa shrugged, "Yeah." She glanced up at the boy, why did he care? "Just makes me luckier than most. I got to have some normal years."

Artemis dug her nails into her palms at her words, refraining from responding

Penelope shrugged. "I believe your wounds should be alright now, Artemis, just take it easy okay?" she gave her a motherly smile.

Joesph sighed, not many people who had the mark didn't want to talk much about it. Yet he had to keep probing. Guess he went a little too far this time. "I see. I'm sorry if I made any of you uncomfortable."

Artemis swallowed hard and nodded, scooting back into the shadows of the room, she felt safer there. She kept tabs on the guards thoughts, alert for danger

Mirissa glanced at Artemis, "I'm sorry." She said instantly regretting her flipent tone.

Artemis raised an eyebrow, curling around herself. "for what?"

"Talking as if it was nothing. I'm sure you would give anything to have freedom.."
Pulling away from the others Mirissa tucked herself back in her corner. The shadows started creeping back to her and she looked around. They never came around people....she shook her head and accepted their comfort.

Artemis shrugged, "we all would, I suppose" she stared down at her feet, her voice monotone

Mirissa nodded, smiling as the shadows tried to send her happy emotions. "Yes..."

Artemis's head snapped up and she eyed the shadows surrounding the girl "what is that?" she asked, on edge

Mirissa glanced at her and the shadows fled, "My friends. "

(ahhh, I'm not use to not having artemis being able to control the elements O.o)

Artemis remained tense, after all she didn't know anything about this strange girl "friends?"

Mirissa nodded, "They talk to me. Comfort me when things get to the breaking point." She dared Artemis with her eyes to call her crazy.

Artemis's lips twitched, dropping her gaze. Yup, she was among the ones to break. not that she hasn't walked that line herself... "whatever floats your banana boat" artemis shrugged

Mirissa felt her temper flare, the dark room becoming pitch black. The darkness became threatening as she stood. "I'm. Not. Crazy." Guards began banging on the door that the shadows held shut.

Artemis flew to her feet, ready to defend herself if need be "right, shadows just talk to you. Calm down," her eyes flashed to the door and her voice became shaky "they aren't going to be happy with us if you don't stop" she felt weak at the thought

Mirissa nodded and slumped to the floor. The presents of the shadows faded and the guards burst into the room.
"We've had it with you!" A tall guard exclaimed pulling her to her feet as another one flipped on the light.
A slender, red haired guard leaned against the door way. "You're not allowed to hurt her, remember? Only command is allowed, shall I tell them you have already put bruises on that arm?"
The tall guard glared at him, "No." And stormed from the room.
Mirissa starred in the direction of the red headed guards voice, "Jake?"
Jake shook his head, a sad look in his eyes, "You're mistaken." And walked out, turning the light off behind him.
