Just Before Dawn

"Okay, okay, so sanity is optional. At least mostly sober, does that work?" Alex's voice was just as joking as hers, just as lighthearted.

But she basically confirmed the insanity suspicion, which explained the mental block...

Sarah
I stop suddenly, spinning around to him again. "Are they going to make everyone flicker for you too?" I ask him in a rush, suddenly serious. Smile and laughs gone, leaving the hall eerily quiet.

A heavy silence hangs between the two of them for a few moments, Alexander not sure what to say. Should he agree, play along? Deny it? Act as confused as he felt? What if the entire mission rested on selecting the right words?

"Um... excuse me...?"

Sarah
Confusion, he's confused. I fill him with guilt. "Then I'm not your girl, hm? 'Halfway sane'? Can't help you out..." And then I flash to anger, swipe at him with my knife. "But then you already knew I was /INsane/! Thats ALWAYS you people's mistake. Insanity doesn't mean /stupid/! Give a damn challenge one of these times!"

Nash

I snorted, "Like I want them after me. I've been wondering what I had done to be locked up for three years. The Area wants me and a few others."

Will

I pulled a book out of my Jacket pocket, not seeing anything else to do and began trying to make my way somewhere...else...it was too loud in here. With my nose in the book, I ran into a guy (Greyson) a bit older than me. "Sorry..."

Grayson
"That's fine," I answer, stopping in my wandering around the place to let him by. Great, that was a gun I felt in his jacket. Though the party as a whole isn't going up in flames any time soon. May be just one of those lucky times....

Will

Pulling Murders in Rue Morgue out from under my nose, I looked at the guy. Meh...Mind as well be social...I had already read the story numerous times... "My name's Will," I said, sticking out my free hand.

Grayson
I give a polite smile, taking one of my hands out of my dress pants pockets and gripping his in a shake. Never was into the rich crowd though... Didn't really converse these people. "Richard," I introduce back.

Will

"So...what brings you here? You normally one of these party goers?" I asked, sticking my book back in my pocket, along side my gun.

Grayson
Ahhhh...what to call Bruce... Always had an issue with these questions... Eh, call him what he is I guess. "My guardian's business. He's talking to some colleagues," I say, looking over at him more. Hand in pocket, where the gun was... I couldn't really help but be on alert with the knowledge. "No, I'm not typically into these sorts of events. You?"

Will

"I crashed it. Normally I only go to these kinds of events because Father drags me. Looks like we're in the same boat." I said, smirking a bit.

Grayson
I give a half smile back. "I suppose we are," I agree, though I'm certainly not in the same group as him. Guns...were never a good thing... I sort of had to question whatever his father might be here for. Seems a peaceful party wasn't going to happen then... Disappointing...

Will

It was great to get out of the house for a while, Father wasn't here, my cousins weren't here....it was nice. Normally it's all 'blahblahblahbussinessbussinessbussiness'. "So...how old are you?" I asked, trying to make some kind of conversation.

White Angel

"Hardly answers to my questions," I said, working very hard to keep the disdain from my voice. "I asked you who they were and what made you so special. So far, the only word you've given that remotely answers either of those is 'Area.' I'd appreciate a straight answer."

Grayson
"Seventeen," I answer, my hand returning to be comfortably in my pocket again. My emergency smoke bomb was in my left that I kept close just for quick accessibility. Made me a tad more relaxed. "You?"

Will

"Sixteen," I said. I had been right, he hadn't been much older than me. "So...what do you do for fun?"

Nash

"Area 51 also known as the "area" by anyone who's been there. It's goverment run and they keep a bunch of people like me locked up. We're seen as threats."

Grayson
Run around on roofs and beat on villains a bit...? Get chased by a certain card a few too many times...?
I shrug. "Video games, work out, hang with friends..." Or other teen vigilantes...
Too many secrets in my life... But I've realized this before.

Will

Guess it was my turn to say what I liked to do. "....read...hang out with my brother..." I said. Yeah. My personal free time sure was exciting. I killed, I lied, I cheated death multiple times, and spend my days following Father's orders.

I give a small nod, staying polite. So...His brother must be a real interesting person to hang out with or there was some obviously held secrets he wasnt saying; no normal person goes about carrying a gun. But then we were all allowed our secrets, weren't we...

Will

"...so where do you go to school?" I asked. I was failing the whole "normal conversation thing" epically...I had no clue what to talk about. Geez...I should get out more.

"Gotham Academy," I answer. "Back east, by New York and Metropolis." I tilt my head to the right slightly, as if to illustrate. Though Gotham was a pretty major city...why he wouldn't have heard of it, I dont know. We certainly have enough crime lords to attract news...

Will

Academy...probably one of those upper class then. "Bridgecroft High, never heard of gothom though. I've been to new york though." Heck. I had been all over. Never heard of Gotham in my life.

That was interesting to hear... Live under a rock or something? Its the home of a 24.7 billion dollar ccompany. The owner of which was that guardian of mine. "Really?" is all i can say, raising an eyebrow.
