"Actually, it was Mr. K"

Larry: "I'm not surprised, he's always open to new faces," I smiled, thinking of my idol. He had been like a father ever since he took me in when I was young. "What's your story? How did you get here? If you don't mind sharing, of course."

Sadie
"No, not at all. I was born like this" I start, gesturing to my chair "because of drugs my mother took when she was pregnant. My family was poor, but the money they didn't even have was spent on drugs and surgery. The one real gift my father gave me was music. So, when I was old enough, I left for my own and saved up to buy my first guitar. I made a lot of mistakes along the way- falling for the wrong guy, even giving up music for a couple of years...but somehow, my path brought me back to my passion, and in turn, the Cirque. Now I want to share my gift."

Larry: I nodded slowly, then smiled. That was such a gushy story, not at all the type you'd want to be attached to at the Cirque. You'd want to appear to be tough here. Should I warn her? "If anyone asks for your story, stop after the part about being messed up because of drugs, okay? I'm doing you a favor."

Sadie
"Trust me, I know...pretty gushy, right?" I laugh "But the thing is, that's why I'm here. Not to be all emotional and junk...but not to appear tough. To play old music, and meet people, and to nurture something dying"

Larry: "Good luck with that," I said dryly before brushing past the flap, back out of the tent.

Sadie
That was exactly what I had expected, actually, but I was dissapointed I couldn't trust him more. Then I started on my next song, a bit of a faster one "I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together..."

My voice wasn't rough enough to do the song justice, though, and I got frustrated. Quickly changing chords, I started playing a bit of a softer song "Your day breaks, your mind aches, you find that all her words of kindness linger on when she no longer needs you"

Here's what I remember writing. Can't remember if you responded or not.

Aro: I see Julia walk back but turn back yo' the other performers. "No," I call over my shoulder to whatever stupid question she was about to ask.

Julia: I crossed my arms. "Why not?"

Aro: "Because I'm busy," I say frankly. "I've got ten different problems coming at me at once, and I don't need another. Why don't you go hang outside with the rest of the audience or something? I've got a show to run and letters of the alphabet to avoid."

Julia: "If you have so many things you need done, wouldn't it be easier to give the little tasks to someone else? Someone like me? I could be your assistant."

Aro: "Ha!" I turn around and scrutinize her, hands on my hips. "You're too young, you're too inexperienced, you're too unschooled, you're too plain, and you're too naive. You've been here what, all of two days? Why don't you come back when your 'too's' become 'not's."

Julia: "I'm nearly old enough to hold a job - if this were before the Mr. K era. I have plenty of experience as an assistant, due to all my younger siblings I had to take care of. I've had years of school, probably more than you did, because I assume you dropped out. You don't know a thing about me Aro."

Aro: My eyes narrow as I look down at her, it taking me everything I have not to punch her in her stupid face. "Unschooled is slang, derived from school or schooling which is any and every type of education that is out there to learn. Schooled means to know something or else possess a certain skill, un changing the meaning of the root word to mean the exact opposite. For example, 'They are schooled in the ways of the Cirque, while you, so obviously not belonging and having been here for not even a week, are as of yet unschooled in our ways. You are also unschooled in the ways of flattery, sympathy, or evoking any other kind of emotion other than what lights, make up, and costumes have added to your meek acrobatics. And so, in case you are also unschooled in the ways of irony, let me spread a little bit of wisdom your way." I look her in the eye and smirk. "You dare to call me fucking uneducated again, and I swear I'll end you."

Julia: I paused. " 'You're fucking uneducated.' " I turned on my heel and walked down the hall.

Aro: The lollipop in my mouth cracks in half as I bite down on it. I spit out the stick abd start to go after her when I remember something: I'm the head now. I've got enemies now. People who'd love to see the newest owner explode on a worker. I turn around to Fanques, who's been helping me arrange acts. I take the clipboard from him and look down the columns of who was gonna perform tonight. Let's see: Jewel, Jewel, ha, found it. Near the beginning and for one of the shortest acts, but it'd still been there. I take the pencil and erase it until her name is nothing but eraser shavings beneath my thumb."Congrats, Fanques," I say. "Looks like you'll finally be getting a solo tonight as well as your double act with Marlene. Try not to piss on it, ok?" His eyes widens and he nods as I hand him back the clipboard. "I don't want that name spoken here ever again."
