Fight or Flight

"Such as odd levels of white blood cells - in such cases as your body sees the drug as an infection instead of a cure, other things like that. We'll be monitoring you all very carefully to make sure nothing goes wrong though. We assure your safety above all," she says, looking over to Veronica. Making sure the drug acted perfectly upon them, so they don't end up limited like the others. No one would pay for a broken good... "Well, I'm very busy with all of this. If there's nothing else, I should be going." She looks between them all, still smiling happily.

Veronica: "So this is supposed to be a cure? For what?"

"In the future we'd like it to be a cure for Neurofibromatosis. We're just seeing if the base drug causes any significant side effects," the doctor answers evenly.

Veronica: I curl up at the foot of my bed. "I wish I knew what that was," I muttered.

Aria
"Well," I said to the doctor, "if I feel anything funny, I'll be sure to let you know. Cure for Neurofibromatosis, huh? I hope everything goes well for you." I gave her a genuine smile.
I was glad to know that I was helping both my family and the field of medicine in general. I loved the feeling that I was helping someone.

Emily
I nodded.
"So when's the guestimated time that we can leave?" I jump and turn, not noticing Kim waking up. She plays with whatever this bracelet is.
"We'll make sure the drug doesn't have any side effects, and then we'll send you on your way," the doctor says. There's something behind her eyes that i catch that makes me somewhat uncomfortable. She gives one last smile before turning and leaving with the assistants, and the room lapses into silence.

Aria
I frowned a little as the doctor left.
"Was it just me," I started, turning to the other girls, "or did that doctor's expression look a little funny?"
It was probably nothing, but...

Does the bracelet give a little shock if its damaged or something?

Veronica: I mutter something under my breath, then play with my shoelaces like I always seem to do. The bracelet on my wrist was really getting on my nerves, so I tugged on it.

they've got an anesthetic in them

"Huh..." Well, at least there was a TV now, though i didn't want to resort to that yet. This was still rather interesting to me. The bracelet thingy was interesting too. Some new monitoring gizmo maybe.

Aria
"So, more waiting," I mused aloud. "I wonder when it'll end."
I looked at the bracelet on my wrist closely, examining its features. I was always interested in how technological stuff worked; I'd been a tinkerer ever since I was little. In fact, I was considering majoring in either computer science or engineering.

((What exactly do the bracelets look like? I don't believe that they were described in detail.))

Veronica: Frustrated, I banged the bracelet on the metal frame of the bed. Instantly, I felt a little prick. "Well that's great. It's a smart bracelet. I wonder if I'll pass out now..."

m...my friends and i haven't gotten into specifics like that...but i picture half way up the forearm, technological but modern and small - being 2025. tight on the wrist, but not too much.

well...there's no more first trial people with Spire gone. anyone want to make one?

"What? Why?" I look over concerned, back down at the bracelet questioningly. What the heck was it for?

Veronica: "It just pinched me..." I murmur. "I bet there's some kind of crap trickling through my veins right now. I feel like I'm in a really bad sci fi movie..."

Aria
I frowned, concerned.
"Well...they wouldn't have it be anything harmful, would they?" I asked. "I mean, the doctors are trying to observe us to see how the drug affects us. Logically, they wouldn't put something lethal or otherwise harmful into us, because it would taint the results. It's like a controlled experiment."

Veronica: I shrug, laying back on the bed and closing my eyes. "Either way, I think it's nice to go to sleep."

Kim
"How the heck do they plan on observing us if we're asleep?" I question with a raised eyebrow. All of this wasn't adding up to me. And I still had to find my brother, where ever he disappeared to.

Veronica: I laugh. "Ever heard of dissection?" The thought should scare me -- I mean, I'd rather be xrayed than dissected.

Emily
I stare at her unbelieving. "You're freaking /yourself/ out now. No one's going to dissect anyone."
Kim nodded. "That's right. If they try they're going to have to deal with a black belt right here!" She grins.

Veronica: I raise an eyebrow, eyes still closed. "You aren't going to be much of a black belt when you're asleep."

Kim
"Hey, you'll be the one sleeping missy! I'll be beating guys asses!" I do a few example punches, even though her eyes were closed. There's a small /whoosh/, and a spot of red. Panic rises in my chest slightly and I shake my hand freaked, like there was some bug that had suddenly appeared on me. I study my hand, heart racing. No, couldn't be fire. Didn't burn....hell, fire doesn't just appear out of no where! Maybe I was hallucinating...the doctor hadn't said that wouldn't happen....

Veronica: "Hmm, I heard that one," I whisper. For some reason it only made me drowsy...I didn't feel like moving...or thinking.

Aria
I blinked, eyes fixed on Kim's hand.
"Did you and I just see the same thing here?" I asked, disbelieving. "I mean, judging by your own reaction I'm going to say 'yes,' but just confirm it for me so I don't feel insane."

Kim
"What...we all hallucinating now...?" I ask sarcastically, not really wanting to say yes. The hallucinating excuse was actually a comfort really. Now that someone else saw it...either it was really just a group hallucination or it actually happened...
