Fight or Flight

I said that like...once. surprised you caught it. xD

The doctor leads them all to a room, large with no windows but dim, comforting lights. The white of the walls is cut by the usual doctor posters of inspiration and courage, adding a dash of color. Along a wall are beds. "Pick one and lie down, get comfortable; the assistants will come around and give you the dosage," she says with a kind smile.

Aria
"Okay then," I said, walking to the nearest bed and lying down.
To say that I wasn't nervous would've been a complete lie. I mean, sure, this looked like any old doctor's office, but what if...? No, I couldn't let my mind go there. Everything would be fine.
Your family needs the money, I told myself. Think of your family. You're doing this for them.
Right. I could do this.

Veronica: My stomach knots. "Is this safe?" I ask.

The doctor leads Veronica to a bed. "Of course. There are, of course, a variety of codes we must meet to test on people. You are perfectly safe." She looks over at the other three as they sit on the beds, glancing over at the attendants who move forward and place an IV in their arm. She looks down at the girl, kindly smiling. "Do you want me to place your IV?"

Veronica: I shiver, staring at her hands. "No. If I'm going to screw myself up, I don't want to blame anyone."

The doctor's smile turned amused. "Just close your eyes and take a breath. It will be over quickly." The assistant comes by and hands her the IV. "Don't worry."

Veronica: I close my eyes. "Maybe the prick, but maybe not the results."

Aria
Ugh, I hated IVs. Well, needles in general. My veins might've been easy to see under my pale skin, but they were so thin that doctors and nurses usually missed the first time. And then they had to take the needle out and try again...
It's just a little prick, I thought. Just a pinch, and then it's done. Nothing terrible.

The doctor kept her smile and put the IV in her arm carefully, taping it in place. "You'll be feeling sleepy soon, then it'll all be over." She turns and leaves the room with the assistants once they finish putting in the IVs of the other teens, her smile turning sinister. "Start the bids at one million," she tells an assistant walking next to her. "They'll be ready in a few hours."

Kim
Wow, anesthesia was right. It's a struggle to keep my eyes open. "Hey...Emily?" I glance over but she's already out of it. "Alright then..."

Veronica: I keep my eyes on the doctor. "I'm not for sale," I whisper before closing my eyes.

((I was under the impression that the doctor said that after she left the room. It wouldn't be smart to say that in front of the test subjects, lol.))

Aria
Right away, a fog rolled in over my head. Man, that stuff really did work. The fog pulled at my eyelids, urging them to close. Unable to resist, I relaxed and entered the world of anesthesia.

(Oops...My mind skipped over that part...cause I'm weird like that. XD)

Emily
I awaken in the room again, blinking against the brightness of the lights. I feel all achy, like i've been sleeping forever. I look over at Kim, still asleep, before looking the other way, a girl right up in my face. I jump back startled as she studies me.
"Uh..." I move to brush my bangs out of my eyes but notice something on my wrist. I blink startled, looking at it.
"You agreed to it," the girl says, her voice empty of emotion but her eyes wide in...fear? What the heck was going on?

(Are they in the same rooms?)

Veronica: I stay perfectly still. I could see the bright lights through my eyelids, and I could hear one of the other girls. Agreed to it....what exactly had I agreed to that required such a sinister voice?

Emily
"U-um...the drug trial? Yeah, so?"
Before she can answer the doctor steps in, eying the girl calmly. "Aya. Nice to see you about but would you care to leave the girls alone? They're very tired."
She stands straight and nods after a moment, turning to leave through the door.
The doctor turns to us with her usual kind smile. "How are we feeling? No nausea, double vision, or dizziness?"

Veronica: I hold my breath. Of course she would care how we're feeling -- wasn't that part of it?

Aria
I opened my eyes to bright lights, then shut them tightly again. I did not like those lights. They were too strong, too bright... Why was I thinking this? I never had a problem with lights before. I opened my eyes just a little, then all the way. Where was I? Oh, right, the drug trial. I sat up, glimpsing an odd bracelet on my wrist.
Wonder what that's for, I thought. Must have something to do with the drug trial, I guess. Maybe it's some sort of monitor...?
I looked up at the doctor's words.
"Nah, I'm feeling alright," I answered. "Just a little groggy is all."

Veronica: Groggy...was I supposed to feel that? I didn't feel terrible at all. Not even different. Just like I had a really nice, long nap. Nothing different, nothing changed. Maybe that was a good thing.

Emily
"Yeah, just tired." Still. How long had we been asleep.
She nods understandingly. "Well, we're going to keep you until we're sure the drug has worn off. There's a bathroom in the corner, attendants will be coming in every now and again for check ups and blood samples. Nothing to worry about."

Veronica: I slowly opened my eyes. "Blood samples?" So it changed our blood?

The doctor nodded. "Just to be safe, make sure the drug isn't reacting negaitivly, causing anything unwanted. Things like that." She looked between them all. "Any other questions?"

Veronica: I sit up, looking at her. "Unwanted such as...?"
