Fight or Flight

(Hmm...didn't know that....)

Veronica: I glance up one more time, wondering if she's trying to fall asleep. "I think it's about time I asked where I was..."

Kim
"What? You volunteer for this thing without reading the paperwork or something?" I say with a chuckle. "The Institute of Biological Studies. We're being 'observed' before they give us whatever we're testing out." I shrug. "Whatever. Gotta pay tuition somehow."

Veronica: I grin. "My mom got me to do it. Said I needed to pay off that mercedes I begged her to get. And to think I got off scotch free with that one."

Night.

Kim
Mercades? Pretty rich then? I glance over at Emily a moment and then back at the girl with a nod. Hell, Ems was filthy rich. The only reason I knew her was from college that I barely managed to get into with the depleating bank account of my parents.

Aria
"We're all here for the money, aren't we?" I asked with a small smile. "Well, except for book girl, anyway." Then I frowned. "Sorry, was that too forward of me? And, uh, I didn't catch your name," I finished, nodding to the girl with the book. The question was whether she could hear and/or see me.

Emily
I glance up from my book. Technically, I'm here looking for Aiden, just as Kim is here looking for her brother. Up until the last month, we had gotten word from them before they just stopped calling. We had checked everywhere but the Institute: their jobs. "Emily Kovach," i introduce, closing my book for now.

Veronica: I frown. "Sounds russian. Kovach is what origin?"

Emily
I nod with a smile. "Yup, Russian, though I'm more British and Scottish in nationality."

Veronica: I nod, glancing at her. I could see it...almost.

Kim
I giggle. "Should have seen her in middle school, her British side was more prominent..."
She rolls her eyes and nudges my shoulder. "I got braces..."

Veronica: I didn't know what to say, so I went back to playing with my shoelaces. Maybe in a few minutes we could get this over with and I could go home.

Emily
We laps into silence for a moment but the door opens and someone with a white lab coat steps in. "You've all passed observation. Will you come with me to the trial room?"

Veronica: I raise an eyebrow. "What was the observation?"

Emily
"Why we've been waiting," i say, standing up and looking over at Kim.
She stands as well. "And it's about time!" She says exasperated with a chuckle.

Veronica: I shrug, noticing their eagerness to get going and stand up, too.

Emily
The doctor nods, looking about the group before checking her papers some. "Right. This way please." She holds the door open, gesturing down the hall.

Veronica: Slowly I start towards the door, not really wanting to be the first through it. I didn't like how they had to give us an "observation" before we did this. Why didn't they answer my question?

Aria
Weird, I thought we had more time left. Guess my inner clock got screwed up from all the waiting. Oh well, I wasn't complaining. I stretched my spine a briefly and rolled my shoulders a couple of times as I followed, hearing a few pops and crackles. Man, I'd been sitting too long.
"Alright, let's do this," I said.

Veronica: I glance at her, wondering how she could be so brave. Of course, I acted like a little kid anyway...maybe it wasnt such a big deal as I thought it was.

Kim
I smirk and follow the doctor out with Emily, inconspicuously glancing about the place looking for any sign of my brother. It all perplexed me.

Veronica: I bite my lip. "So...where are we going?"

The doctor looked back at Veronica from her papers. "The trial room. There you'll be dosed with the experimental drug and then be placed under observation again. That one will probably seem shorter though; the drug tends to act as an anesthesia sometimes."

Aria
"I guess that's a good thing, then," I said. "Sitting there doing nothing, I felt like my brain was going to trickle out my ears..." I really should have brought something to do. Well, there's no changing it now.

Veronica: I study him, trying to figure out if he was telling the truth. But his face was blank and I got the same chills I did before. Experimental drug, he said...maybe I shouldn't have done this.
